Dance/Music On Site Activity
ALS offered libraries a terrific array of musical programs and dance programs for libraries to book, exposing patrons to new forms of music, dance, and library experiences. Selections include Heebie Jeebies Family Comedy Music Show, local music instructor Shannon Gunderson, local musician Casey Oro, the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra Music to You program, Zachary Scot Johnson, and Moroccan musical group Caravan Serai.
92 adults and youth attended the Caravan Serai programs. 221 adults attended the Shannon Gunderson programs. 219 adults and youth attended the DSSO Music to You programs. 1,776 adults and youth attended the Heebie Jeebies Musical Performances. 621 youth and adults attended the Zachary Scot Johnson programming.
Patrons will enjoy original children's music and high-caliber musical performances. Patrons will learn about other cultures and reflect on the relation to their own upbringing.
A survey was distributed to all groups of attendees. 95% of the Caravan Serai program attendees said they would attend another program like this at the library. Some comments include: "I learned Middle Eastern music is a joy to listen to" and "I learned another way to play the fiddle." 100% of the Shannon Gunderson program attendees said they would attend another program like this at the library. Comments include: "The fund responsible for this is a wonderful thing! Keep the programs coming!" and "It was a review of music of my lifetime -- I loved it!" 98% of the DSSO Music to You programs said they would attend another program like this at the library. Comments include: "I learned that French Composters focus on Harp composition" and "What a wonderful opportunity for our small town with limited culture!" 100% of Heebie Jeebies attendees said they would attend another program like this at the library. Comments include: "Music can bring the joy out in anyone -- thank you!" and "These musical community events are great for everyone -- keep them coming!" 98% of attendees said they would attend a similar program in the future at the library. Comments include: "I can't believe these programs come to small towns, thank you to legacy funds!" and "This program touched my heart -- I can't believe it's free at the library!"
