Project Overview
Author presentation on the book The Farm at Holstein Dip. Description of program in author’s words: The Farm at Holstein Dip is “a reminiscence of my boyhood, my hometown, and a vanished rural way of life.” Holstein Dip is the old swimming hole located on my parents' small-scale diversified farm located near Elkader, Iowa. It is a place where kids played by day and adults played by night. The book focuses on the period from my birth in 1941 until 1959 when I left for Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Throughout I put my family into historical context relating our personal experience to larger political, social, and economic trends. The book therefore should appeal to anyone interested in learning about what it was like to live in the rural Midwest in the forties and fifties." The presentation took place in nine LARL locations from April 9-11, 2013. Presentations were held at the Bagley Library, Barnesville Library, Climax Library, Crookston Library, Detroit Lakes Library, Hawley Library, Mahnomen Library, Moorhead Library and Lake Park LINK Site.
