5) It Happens Here: The Roots of Racial Inequity on the North Shore. This is an ongoing series created by WTIP in partnership with independent producer and host Leah Lemm and other BIPOC voices from our community. The goal of the series is to root listeners in the history of racist treatment of Black, Indigenous and people of color in Cook . We'll explore how that's manifested over the years ' from the arrival of the first White settlers to present day. The project will incorporate local research on topics related to racism and racial injustice as well as current voices and perspectives on the many aspects of racism in our community. Content scripted and produced for the series It Happens Here' will be reviewed and evaluated throughout the production of the series by an independent, editorial board of diverse community members and media professionals. The editorial board will serve as content advisors.
5.5) Anishinaabe Bizindamoo Makak is a radio partnership between the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe and WTIP Community Radio that will feature long-format interviews in both Ojibwemowin and English. Hosted by Grand Portage Ojibwe Language Coordinator Erik Redix, the program will bring the voices of Ojibwe/Anishinaabe first speakers on the air, telling stories and sharing their insights in a bi-lingual format.
*There will be an increase in locally-focused and Minnesota focused content produced by public radio that is focused on cultural and history topics relevant to the Northern Minnesota and the Arrowhead region.
*There will be an increase in BIPOC relevant content produced by public radio that is focused on history, culture and language preservation.
*There will be an increase in content specific to the history, culture and language preservation efforts in Northern Minnesota and the Arrowhead region.
