The Voyageurs Classroom will connect 5,000 Minnesota youth to Voyageurs National Park over three years to learn about its waters, wildlife, forests and skies, and engage in its preservation.
The Arts and Justice Pathways Initiative seeks to foster creative and restorative solutions for justice- impacted communities in Minnesota. Through arts, wellness, and empowerment programs, this initiative will cultivate support, healing, and new opportunities for formerly incarcerated individuals, addressing both community restoration and personal growth.
Funny Asian Women Kollective (FAWK) uses comedy to combat the dehumanization of Asian women. This project includes: 1) a tour performing throughout the state, particularly to rural communities with large Asian American populations; 2) provide workshop opportunities to equip communities with the tools to create their own comedic material; 3) produce two super shows in Minneapolis and Saint Paul (700+ audience); 4) allow digital production of five short films and distribution.
Wonderlust Productions will use stories gathered from people who live and work behind the scenes in downtown Saint Paul to create short, place-based, audio plays, peeling back the curtain on who and what really makes our city tick. Audiences will be invited to take a listening tour of the city by following an online map and QR codes displayed around town.
The Link will provide culturally specific programming to 12-15 youth that will participate in a pilot expansion of the We Will Breathe program (incorporating a new Black History month initiative). We Will Breathe is a youth-led Racial Justice and Healing Initiative, where youth come together as a collective to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, their cultures, and their identities.
This project will create three videos (45-60 minutes each), produced in Oromo with English subtitles and voice over), to document the challenges and triumphs of first-generation immigrants, preserve heritage, affirm cultural identity, and introduce Minnesotans the Oromo community.
This project is a digital storytelling project dedicated to bonding communities and cultures through telling elders' stories. The project is embedded in the idea that our elders are waterers - carrying history and knowledge that strengthens a community's identity, and that through the sharing of their stories, we can understand and strengthen communities across generations and geographic location. The project will involve 30 persons from Indigenous, Hmong, Latinx and Somali cultures located across the state.

Then Now Wow is a long-term educational exhibit designed specifically for Minnesota's children and families. This year staff created a comprehensive marketing strategy to increase overall attendance while driving specific increases among diverse families. New programs, including a monthly offering called WOW! Family Sundays, will give families the opportunity to discover the connections between old and new through activities, games, hands-on art projects and sharing stories.
MNHS is promoting the "Then Now Wow" exhibit at the Minnesota History Center to ensure that Minnesota families, schoolchildren and teachers are aware of, and therefore visit, the exhibit to learn about the history of our state. The marketing program to date is extremely successful. Family attendance increased 73% and school group attendance increased 19% from FY12 to FY13.
Developed for families with children and school field trips, and complementing the Northern Lights state history curriculum, this highly interactive exhibit explores the regions and cultures that have defined Minnesota over the course of the state's history.
Implementation of various aspects of the adopted master plan, as prioritized by the community in that plan after further conversation with park users and community members to select final projects, including design, engineering, and administration for trails rehabilitation, natural areas, wayfinding, signage, interpretive elements, stormwater management, buildings, shelters, and historic resources
Funding would implement trail rehabilitation, access and accessibility improvements, and connections to transit throughout Theodore Wirth Regional Park. This funding is for the same project described in the FY 2023 Parks and Trails Legacy request. It has been determined through community engagement to focus efforts on trail rehabilitation, wayfinding, and accessibility.
Funding would be allocated to two major projects in the park. A portion would improve wayfinding throughoughout the park and also address trail surface conditions, realign trail routes to make them less confusing or more accessible, and provide visitor comfort facilities like benches, restroom enclosures, and drinking fountains. A portion would be used to stabilize eroding slopes and restore degraded forest habitat in the vicinity of Twin Lake.
To create and install an exhibit bringing to light the absent narratives behind 129 graffiti signatures in the soft yellow bricks of the Canadian National Railways Depot, listed in the National Register of Historic Places and current cultural center
This project will finalize the Hydrologic Simulation Program FORTRAN (HSPF) watershed model construction and complete the calibration/validation process. The consultant will produce an HSPF watershed model that can readily be used to provide information to support conventional parameter TMDLs.
Three streambank stabilization projects have been identified as high priority projects in the Thief River Falls Water Quality Study completed in 2017. The proposal will use a combination of bendway weirs, toe protection by building a floodplain bench and live stake plantings. It has been estimated that a total of 385 tons per year of sediment from these three locations is entering the river contributing to the impairment downstream.
The goal of this project is to calculate an additional bacteria total maximum daily load and incorporating that information in the Total Maximum Daily Load Report (TMDL) and the Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy (WRAPS) report. Other services that will be provided during this project are technical assistance, assistance with responses to comments received during the public notice process, incorporating public comments into the documents and preparing the documents for final federal and state approval.
The goal of the project is to identify priority locations for project implementation using the Prioritize, Targeting, and Measuring Application (PTMApp) in the Thief River Watershed. The PTMApp will be used to identify and evaluate the suitability and effectiveness of best management practices including treatment scenarios, and provide estimates of sediment, nitrogen, and phosphorus delivered to the Thief River Watershed, which is impaired for sediment.
Thiel Creek is a designated trout stream in southern Stearns County and outlets into Lake Marie and Lake Louisa. Both lakes are impaired for nutrients. Thiel Creek is experiencing severe bank erosion and local residents have expressed concern about the excessive sedimentation entering the lakes. Most of this erosion is occurring on an approximate mile reach of the creek just upstream of the outlet into the lake.
To hire a qualified consultant to develop architectural drawings for the Third Street Bridge, Cannon Falls, listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
A second opinion for a treatment proposal for the inspection certificate recovered from the shipwreck of the steamer Thomas Wilson was obtained by the Lake Superior Maritime Museum Association. The clearly written report, including detailed recommendations, was prepared by a qualified paper conservator. The LSMMA is now able to prioritize where this project fits into their Long Range Plan.
Thompson Lake is a shallow lake located in the City of West St. Paul, within the Lower Mississippi River Watershed Management Organization (LMRWMO). The 7-acre lake receives runoff from a 175-acre urban watershed that was developed in the 1950's and currently provides very little stormwater treatment. The eastern shoreline is within Thompson County Park, which features a fishing pier, event center, and miles of regionally connected trails. The west shoreline of the lake abuts the St. Croix Lutheran School.
To do preservation work at the Thorstein Veblen Farmstead National Historic Landmark, located near Nerstrand, in Rice County, Minnesota, that will provide urgently needed stabilization and preservation of three out-buildings at the farmstead, including the original small barn, the large hay barn, and the granary.
The Upper Sioux Community secured the services of a qualified consultant to assist in completing an application for certification as a Tribal Historic Preservation Office (THPO) for the National Park Service. Public input meetings were conducted as part of the preparation for the application. Having THPO status will support one of the leading Dakota communities' efforts to secure and document their history.
