Laura MacKenzie: The Outlander Series and Traditional Scottish Music
The Outlander Series andTraditional Scottish Music- A fascinating program of traditional Scots and Scottish Gaelic music from the Outlander Series. The Outlander novels quote a wonderful variety of Scottish songs, airs and dance tunes, and the sound track of the popular television series incorporates even more. MacKenzie presents this program of music from both the Highlands and the Lowlands on an array of instruments including wooden flutes, whistles, concertina, Scottish smallpipes, border bagpipes and voice. This program covers history, language, literature and cultural traditions. Hear some of your favorites, learn about tradition, and join in on a smash-hit wool waulking song! This program took place at the Moorhead Public Library on November 13, 2019.

Attendees will learn about the musical traditions discussed in the popular Outlander series. Attendees will hear the actual music referred to in the books on the instruments it was meant to be played on. Attendees will see a variety of traditional instruments played and hear about their history. Attendees will learn about the history traditional Scots and Scottish Gaelic music.
