While the intended outcome was to give participants an opportunity to work on their materials while having the presenter there for assistance, it also gave NWRL an opportunity to find out how they would work on their materials via library equipment on their own.
When asked if participants feel confident that they can work on their own for scanning, retouching and publishing their family story, answers were as follows:Strongly agree 21%; agree 53%; neutral 12%; disagree 14%When asked if they will return to the library to do more work on their family story, answers for particular topics covered in the workshops were as follows:Scanning 42%; restoring images 36%.The instructor said it’s difficult to teach classes such as this as some participants are computer literate while others lack computer skills. The frustration of participants who lacked skills showed up in the evaluations but even the computer literate participants said they needed additional workshops to practice their skills. NWRL purchased books on the software and the instructor gave them detailed instructions on a CD and handouts to help them while they work on their own.
