The project goal is to conduct water chemistry monitoring at five subwatershed sites and two basin sites annually from 2016-2019, based on flow conditions, targeting runoff events using protocols defined in the Watershed Pollutant Load Monitoring Network (WPLMN) Standard Operating Procedures and Guidance. The data collected will be submitted to Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) and used in the FLUX32 model for calculating pollutant loads.
Crow Wing County, in cooperation with the municipalities within the County, plans to continue its successful well sealing program that pays 50% of the cost to seal / abandon wells up to a maximum of $1000 per well. Priority will be given to wells located in or near existing wellhead protection areas.
The project will include lake and stream monitoring. Lake monitoring will be completed on twenty lakes found in The Crow Wing River Watershed - West Crow Wing County (CWC) & Southern Cass County for 2020. There will be 11 streams sampled located in Crow Wing, Cass, Wadena and the border of Cass/Morrison Counties 2020 & 2021. The project will be conducted in an effort to gain sufficient data on these data-deficient lake sites. One of the goals of the CWC Local Comprehensive Water Plan (CWP) is to establish a countywide Comprehensive Monitoring Plan (CMP).
This project will emphasize restoring and enhancing approximately 260 acres of various permanently protected habitats, and acquiring approximately 154 acres of permanent conservation easements or fee title. Project sites include Lake Byllesby Regional Park, land adjacent to Regional Park Reserves and Regional Greenways, Chub and Marcott Lakes, rivers and streams, and hydric soil areas. Habitats will include forest, grassland, wetland, and riparian areas throughout the County.
Dakota Wicohan will develop programming alternatives, like online and media resources and delivered care packages, to stay engaged with our youth, adults and families, focusing specifically on using culturally appropriate means to bolster the mental and spiritual health of our youth, and help them deal with any losses they experienced in their families and community. We will continue this new at-home support and activity component of our programming beyond the Covid-19 crisis.
Provide a fun, supportive and engaging opportunity for Dakota youth to learn the Dakota language and culture through weekly activity nights, which includes assisting with the planning and production of a monthly fun cultural lesson video for distribution on YouTube and social media.
This project will restore approximately 474 acres of permanently protected habitats, and acquire approximately 420 acres of permanent conservation easements and/or fee title lands. Project sites include converting cultivated areas to wetlands in the southern two-thirds of the County, and various habitats, including forest, grassland, riparian areas, and other wetlands throughout the County. This initiative includes identified sites and flexibility for opportunities that will arise.
Sites contaminated with chlorinated industrial pollutants are a significant problem in Minnesota. We will determine the best way to stimulate bacteria for faster and more complete pollutant dechlorination.
Create user-friendly, research-based energy storage guide and decision tools (print and web-based) for community-scale sites with renewable energy and do three geographically dispersed battery storage demonstration projects, through broad stakeholder-expert engagement.
DNR data show that fisher in Minnesota have declined 50% since 2000. Den sites may be limiting reproduction. We will test if den boxes can help the fisher population increase.
This project will develop a watershed wide Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) study and River Eutrophication Standard (RES) TMDL report for water quality impairments in the Des Moines River basin, which includes the Des Moines River Headwaters, Lower Des Moines River, and East Fork Des Moines River watersheds.
Project will complete the design and engineering required for renovation of the bathroom buildings and the boat rental building within the main day-use recreation area of Baker Park Reserve
Design, engineer and reconstruct rest rooms building, maintenance garage, driveway, sidewalks, lighting, utilities, associated storm water improvements including demolition, grading, curb and gutter, paving, retaining wall construction and landscaping at the Hyland-Bush-Anderson Lakes Regional Park Reserve.
Design, engineer, and construct Hall's Island and the Park on the Scherer Site within Above the Falls Regional Park, based on the Metropolitan Council approved Master Plan for that park.
Implement the Water Works portion of the 2015 Central Mississippi Regional Park master plan pending adoption by the Metropolitan Council. Work will include design, engineering, and construction of trails, pedestrian/bicycle/vehicle circulation, landscaping improvements, ramps, stairs, and walls, buildings, stormwater management, historic resources, neighborhood connections, and natural habitat restoration.
Design & engineering to develop building plans for a addition to the Nature Center, Sugar Shack, Garden House, Shelters, and Maintenance Facility. Develop site plans for gathering nodes, observation, amenities, trails, landscaping, signage, stormwater management; initiate construction for site related improvements such as trails, gathering nodes, nature observation, signage, landscaping, and site amenities. Supplement construction costs for amenities on the Campus Site and Infrastructure project.
