The Step Into Your Light Project will work with non-English speaking Hmong women elders to give them an opportunity to explore cultural dances they wouldn't have access to nor find a reason to try something new. The goal of this project is to help Hmong women step out of their comfort zones to step into the spotlight. This experience will be documented, narrated, and translated to be published on YouTube to encourage all women to not be afraid of their own light.
This project will support new, community-focused programming that expands our current work, and explores community desire for a future gathering space magnetized around the humanities. We're calling our project The Park-Lynn Community Archive and Reading Room,Parks-Lynn for short.
Crossing Mountains is a highly collaborative effort by a coalition of Hmong artists to create a sweeping story of two generations of Hmong women who escape Laos to Minnesota. Their story is one of sacrifice and hardship and ultimately hope and redemption. Inspired by the real story of an amazing Hmong woman from Minneapolis, this Hmong opus will use ballet to share the Hmong story of escape from Laos to acclimating in a strange new land.
Since 2011, Appetite For Change has been facilitating connections and celebration for community members and the rich history and traditions of food in North Minneapolis. North Minneapolis is known as being one of the most economically distressed communities in Minnesota, with 46.5% of people living below the poverty line and a median household income of $38,226 in 2021 (compared to the state average of $117,800) (FFIEC, 2021). Though, these statistics don't capture the true essence of the community that makes up North Minneapolis.
Minnesota's twelve regional library systems, which encompass more than 350 public libraries in all areas of the state, can benefit from a portion of the Legacy Amendment's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Through State Library Services, a division of the Minnesota Department of Education, each regional library system is eligible to receive a formula-driven allocation from the annual $2.5 million Minnesota Regional Library System Legacy Grant. East Central Regional Library (ECRL) is a consolidated regional public library system in east central Minnesota.
Objective 1: By September 20, 2019, staff of MLBO Ojibwe Language Immersion program and MLBO OMB professionals responsible for relevant acquisition processes will purchase materials and resources necessary for the student attendance of Language Bowl and other quiz-type Ojibwe language competitions throughout the state, as well as those necessary for hosting a Language Bowl at MLBO, including financial provision for travel, food, and competition materials, as allowed by relevant granting policies and procedures.
The pandemic has created challenges for Minnesota families, schools and communities like never before. Throughout this crisis the Science Museum has remained true to its commitment to be a statewide resource for science and education that centers equity. This was demonstrated by our pivot to the development and delivery of online content accessible for users throughout Minnesota. We are excited to welcome back audiences to a safe and engaging museum experience.
