Today's request to the MN Humanities Center for Page to Publishinggrows our former Community Editors program from 12 sessions of compressed writing and editing skill building, to a comprehensive 20-session literary arts pathway for BIPOC artists. To launch the program, a call for Teaching Artists will go out in September, with a goal to have five leaders on board by November. At the same time, we will promote the upcoming workshop opportunities to communities via networks of former Community Editors, through libraries in primarily BIPOC communities, and other means.

The first goal of this project is that sixty nine American Indian youth ages 7-17 will increase their knowledge and practice of conversational Dakota through out-of-school time instruction by the end of the project period. Additionally, it is the hope that the Indian youth will continue to study Dakota and become fluent speakers. The project will provide experiential language instruction in conversational Dakota through cultural and recreational activities to these youth.

The Little Red Schoolhouse has a long history in Kanabec County. Built in 1882 for $350, it served as the first schoolhouse for School District No. 2 before finding a home on the fairgrounds. The Little Red Schoolhouse is home to children's art displays and a variety of activities. Funds will provide a new roof, repair the ceiling, and make the necessary adaptations to make the building handicap accessible. Additionally, period costumes will be purchased and a teacher will be hired for programming.
