The Polk County Fair is proposing to use the Legacy funding to provide the Free Stage audience with a unique musical experience. The first act is entitled the "The Woodpicks." They are a classic blue grass band using instruments familiar with blue grass, fiddle, stand-up bass, and banjo. The second act is called "the Radio Stars." It is a classic country western group that plays old time classics.
Minnesota China Friendship Garden Society will create and promote a public garden as a multi-cultural learning experience to preserve and honor cultural heritage for all Minnesotans. The new pilot project will have two educational elements: 1) Partner with two public middle schools to develop curriculum materials, host field trips and design preparatory materials to help foster all of the state middle school students collective understanding of the diverse art, culture and heritage demonstrated in the garden.
May Lee-Yang will collaborate with local Hmong filmmakers to produce two 30-minute episodes of Hmong Organization, a comedy web series about a Hmong nonprofit and the people who work there. The completed episodes will be made available for free on Youtube.
The Minnesota Zoo’s site – 485 acres of land in Dakota county – is a state treasure that includes a diverse array of habitants including vernal pools, sedge meadows, oak woodlands, and northern rich fens. More than half of this is undeveloped wildlife habitat which, thanks to Legacy funding, is now being explored by zoo staff and guests in order to educate citizens about the wild animals and wild places native to our state and the importance of caring for and conserving these resources.
NATIFS is launching the Indigenous Food Lab in Minneapolis. By providing education and training that give Native people access to healthy, local, indigenous food, we can address serious issues of malnutrition, food-related illness, and economic impoverishment on tribal lands. We are requesting funding to launch virtual programming now, including how-to videos and podcast conversations with Native chefs and other relevant Native health experts.
