Township Record Digitization and Manual Creation
To develop a prototype process to digitize Steele County government records.
Partners: Steele County Historical Society, Aurora Township
As the center for area history preservation, the Steele County Historical Society (SCHS) seeks to advance Steele County history through a partnership with Aurora Township (AT). There is a huge amount of Township records in the state and answering what to do about their preservation and access can be confounding. Township governments generally lack funding and technical knowledge to protect the history they record, yet their records are among the most factually rich primary sources. This partnership will prototype a process to digitize local government records and compile a how-to manual. The manual will be a statewide guide for other historical societies and townships interested in engaging this type of work.
$2,500,000 each year is for history partnerships involving multiple organizations, which may include the Minnesota Historical Society, to preserve and enhance access to Minnesota's history and cultural heritage in all regions of the state.
