During the 2016 Legislative Session, the Minnesota State Legislature asked the Minnesota Humanities Center to award arts and cultural heritage grants to civics organizations. Legacy funds are appropriated to the Humanities Center to support such work. A small portion of each appropriation was reserved by the Humanities Center for direct expenses related to administering the grant. Should any portion of this reserve be unused, the difference will be awarded to the respective organizations. Specific funds information not available; named recipients have not yet submitted proposals.

Non-country folks like them because they look wild, play fast, and have fun performing a style of music they may have never heard before, in a way they have never seen.
This year the Wilkin County Ag Society will use the legacy grant to hire musical entertainment throughout the duration of the fair. We will also have a magician and balloon artist for two days of the fair. This year we will be having a draft horse pulling demonstration that will include the history of how horse pulls played a role in early county fairs.
The outcome for the preservation and analysis of "Iapi Oaye" focuses on the publications of the Dakota Language newspaper between 1871-1939. Dakota Language Specialist will continue his work going through each publication, documenting the words used and analyzing how the language was used and changed over the decades of publication. As well as making a glossary of words, some of which have not been documented in other language dictionaries. The goal of the project will be to use texts as a learning tool.
1. To develop the aligned scope and sequence of the PreK-12 Dakota and Ojibwe language pathways, ensuring students are progressing towards language mastery. 2. To seek community input and foster strong support of Native language and culture programming at AIMS. 3. To develop a plan for AIMS which ensures that Dakota and Ojibwe language and culture are infused in all classrooms, and creates a sustainable heritage language program option.
Additional greenspace will be developed to expand the memorial with new curb and gutter. Monuments will be replaced to include the 6th branch (Space Force). New lighted Bollards, Benches, Evergreen and Crabtrees will be planted. Names of veterans will be placed on the monument and added over time. A donor plaque will be included and placed in front of the City Christmas Tree signifying the Martha Anderson Veterans Memorial Park contributions made through community donors.

This is important because connecting students' education to their Indigenous language will increase their participation in their overall education. The second objective will be for each student to identify one person in their life with whom they can share the Indigenous language they have learned.

The purpose of Cansayapi's 2022/2023 Immersion grant request is to leverage and strengthen the new foundation for Dakota language learning and speaking we've built, thanks in part to continuous MIAC support over the past five years. Previous MIAC grants have helped us with hiring the first Dakota language teacher in our community and adding Dakota language classes into the two nearby high schools and supporting staffing and activities within basic operations in our new immersion school, CWOO.
Objective 1: At outset of project, MLBO staff will meet on a monthly basis in order to provide steering support for programming as well as a means of ensuring quality control for programming in order to ensure effective usage of grant resources. Objective 2: By Month 3 MLBO Administration and NAS Language Staff will have completed internal planning pertaining to usage of contracting funds, including long-term objectives for contracts and future-planning of contract funds which have not yet been allocated.
