Project Overview

Common buckthorn, an invasive brush species, has been found across the Tallgrass Aspen Parkland habitat. Buckthorn has been invading the aspen stands within the WMA sites and will need to be controlled and monitored to help prevent the spread of this invasive species. Control efforts will enhance the forest understory for many wildlife species. The buckthorn infestations are currently at a manageable level and aggressive treatment will keep it set back, preventing the forest from becoming a buckthorn monoculture.
