Martin County WMA Tree Removal PHASE II
Continue our tree removal projects on Martin County WMA's on native prairie or restored prairie habitat. Encroachment of trees by shading out prairie vegetation is destroying said vegetation. Both the encroaching tree seedlings and the seed trees need to be removed to eliminate this threat to the prairie habitat. Currently the sites are dominated by diverse native prairie species. Small areas of mature trees exist on edges or in clumps within the prairie habitat. These mature trees are providing a seed source resulting in tree invasion into the prairie as scattered trees and dense patches of trees that are completely smothering out the prairie plant species. Cut and pile if possible, all undesirable trees and shrub species and treat deciduous tree and shrub stumps and foliage regrowth on 5 Wildlife Management Areas located in Martin County.
