Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

We expect that our patrons will experience a new and different genre of music, that they will learn about the history of jazz and that they will walk away with a broadened understanding of our region's musical heritage. We will be administering evaluation cards to members of the audience and will be evaluating the results based on the results of our survey.

Measurable Outcome(s)

90% of participants said that after watching this program, they have increased their understanding and appreciation of jazz music. 4% of participants said that they enjoyed this program because it helped them learn a new skill; 65% of participants said that they enjoyed this program because it helped them increase their knowledge, or better understand a topic; 54% of participants said that they enjoyed the program because it helped them spend quality time with family or friends; 23% of participants said that they enjoyed the program because it helped them generate or refine ideas and/or goals. 83% of participants said that this program increased their interest in jazz music. One audience member commented that the program "broaden[ed] [her] musical tastes"; another commented that this was the "first jazz program [they] have had"; another said "honestly this was the first time to hear this type of music. Oh, this just put a good ache inside of me... thank you so much!"; another said "Great night, they knew the history of their music." One librarian remarked, "It's not often we hear different styles of music, there are only 2 radio stations. People loved to hear something new, yet an old style." Another said, "People are so happy to experience something like gypsy jazz/ swing, something they had never heard of and never would without the opportunity that comes from the Legacy Program." Another commented, "We lack this kind of exposure to a variety of music and visual arts in this region, it is crucial to get more programming in our library that can introduce variety and grow interest in our patron population."

Source of Additional Funds

Two volunteers helped run the Roseau program. The Warren Senior Club provided a venue for their performance. The Warroad Senior Center provided a venue and served coffee and cookies to audience members following the performance.
