The Council on Asian-Pacific Minnesotans and the Humanities Center’s “Arts & Cultural Legacy” program will educate, highlight, and promote understanding of the arts and cultural heritage of Asian American and Pacific Islanders for all Minnesotans. The Program consists of 3 elements 1) capacity building via the Artists Fellowship Program and the Asian Pacific Youth Council; 2) print and media via the creation of books for young readers; and 3) arts programming.
Dakota Wicohan is a regional non-profit language support organization that seeks to revitalize the Dakota language in Minnesota to a living language. In this grant, they will develop, digitize, and make available electronic and manual Dakota language learning resources to a minimum of 15 Dakota families and other learners broadly throughout the project year.

AirSpace Minnesota (a coalition of independent aviation and aerospace organizations) worked to develop a formal partnership among organizations with similar missions to engage in long-range, strategic planning for coordinating future projects.
-Employ local elder language expert to conduct semi-weekly language tables
-Engage apprentices in basic Ojibwe conversation
-Obtain a state of MN American Indian Language and Culture teaching license (k-12)
-Hold culture committee meetings that will identify needs of language project and help to support
-Committee will also work to elicit maximum participation of community member in Ojibwe education

MNHS and regional public libraries across Minnesota are combining resources to educate, entertain and build community among library patrons in the state. Libraries and MNHS are bringing a range of programs and events to local libraries that document and preserve community stories for future generations, educate people of all ages about the history of Minnesota and its people, and make high quality history programming accessible to all Minnesotans.
The MNHS Indian Advisory Committee (IAC) is made up of tribally appointed representatives of the 11 Minnesota tribes, as well as representatives of key groups, such as educators. IAC advises on planning, developing, and evaluating MNHS activities and initiatives including exhibitions, publications, public programs, and curatorial policy as they relate to the research, collection, preservation, and interpretation of Minnesota and American Indian history in Minnesota.
-Implement and train on a new scope and sequence model for preschool-early childhood Ojibwe language instruction.
-Staff training on the new model conducted by Grassroots Indigenous Multimedia with ongoing Skype session support

-Dual language road sides for community to increase public awareness of Ojibwe language
Grant Activities: The short term goals are to use language and traditional teachings as literacy tools through the development of an Anishinaabemowin Family Literacy program taking place throughout the 2012-2013 school years. The Anishinaabemowin Revitalization team will consist of school staff, elders, tribal government employees, parents, and community members. A written plan for revitalization will be concluded by June 2013. An increased capacity for immersion programming will result through the development of local speakers, materials, and an effective school based program.
