To construct an exhibit building adjacent to the fire tower now located on the Beltrami County Fairgrounds. The new building will replicate an authentic 1950s ranger station and will house an exhibit of Minnesota forest fire service activity, Ojibwa cultural history, a display of Paul Bunyan legends and artifacts, and space for historical, cultural and environmental education.
The Dakhóta Iápi Okhódakichiye will conduct a series of interviews with first language speakers of the Dakhóta language to understand the systematic absence of Minnesota's first language through a Dakhóta lens. The project has three objectives: 1) Understand the systematic absence of the Dakhóta language from Minnesota, 2) Understand language loss and revitalization from a Dakhóta perspective, and 3) Create Dakhóta language curriculum and archive (bilingual) from the transcripts.
In a collaborative effort between the Wabasha Public Library and the Wabasha County Museum the history of the Wabasha area was interpreted in a weekend event focusing on the Treaty of Traverse des Sioux and its impact on the "Half-Breed Tract", a reservation of children of mixed Indian and European ancestry. The 1851 signing of the Treaty of Traverse des Sioux and the resulting settlement and tourism were analyzed through the perspectives of the native Dakota, the Euro-American tourist and the newly arrived settlers from 1851 to 1861.

The Dakota County Historical Society (DCHS) worked with a graphic designer to develop several templates for exhibit guides. The exhibit guides are short publications that promote and/or provide additional information about topics featured in DCHS exhibits and programs. Three different templates were developed, a two-sided 4" x 9" promotional card, a traditional three-fold brochure, and a booklet 5.5" x 8.5" that can be scaled in four-page increments. Each of these guides is immediately recognizable as a product of DCHS.
This project will move from a development phase to an implementation phase during which the public will begin to gain access to a greater number of Minnesota newspapers from around the state on the internet. Society staff will refine and automate the newspaper management system it developed in the first phase of the project and continue to work out access agreements with publishers and also form new partnerships with many more publishers. Staff will continue the work of harvesting and archiving webonly news sources that was begun in the first phase of the project.
History Player in the Classroom is a popular program in which actors portraying historical figures come to Minnesota classrooms to give students "real life" lessons in history.
Interactive Video Conferencing, is a program created by the Minnesota Historical Society to provide interactive educational experiences for fourth through sixth grade students using new video-conferencing capabilities.
Sumunar and Marion W. Savage Elementary School will collaborate in a two-week residency in Indonesian gamelan music making, with intensive daily instruction for special education classes, introductory sessions for general classrooms, and a concluding performance for parents and the public.
The Phillips art project, Semilla, will expand to teach mosaic and mural arts to bilingual, multigenerational communities by training youth and adult artists as arts facilitators and by creating mosaic planters and murals that help unify the community.
Partners: Adath Jeshurun Foundation and the Jewish Historical Society of the Upper Midwest. Adath Jeshurun Congregation is the oldest Jewish Conservative Congregation in Minnesota. This project will ensure that 127 years of archival material will be carefully preserved, cataloged and made available for exhibits, education and scholarly research so that Minnesota Jewish ways of life will be known today and for generations to come.
Minnesota Potters: Sharing the Fire will explore, promote, and honor Minnesota ceramic artists, their tradition of mentorship, and the ways in which they pass on their skills to new generations.
