On behalf of the Metropolitan Council, the Minnesota Geological Survey evaluated the vulnerability of glacial aquifers in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The project improved upon previous vulnerability assessments by incorporating a substantial amount of new aquifer property information and blending methods previously used by the Minnesota Departments of Health and Natural Resources. The result is a consistent vulnerability assessment across the metropolitan area based on the most up-to-date information available.
We will map habitat and diseases of urban foxes and coyotes to understand what they need to live and risks posed to people and pets, thereby demystifying them for residents.
Data is needed about which aquatic habitats moose prefer and how moose can potentially enhance nearshore lake foodwebs. This project will map critical aquatic habitats and measure lake foodweb effects.
We propose conducting the first statewide analysis mapping the extent of Minnesota’s unprofitable cropland and estimating both the water-quality and habitat benefits of converting these lands to perennial crops/vegetation.
The Kohlman Lake nutrient reduction study identified a major source of phosphorus loading from the impervious areas like roads, roofs and parking lots within the watershed.. Within this area, one major land use feature stands out - Maplewood Mall. Retrofitting the Mall parking areas to infiltrate at least one inch of stormwater runoff will result in a large reduction in phosphorus to Kohlman Creek and the lake.
The Kohlman Lake TMDL calls for the reduction of nutrients from watershed and in-lake loading. This project designed a new sugar shack at Maplewood State Park. This sugar shack will provide space for interpretive programming centered on maple syrup sugaring. The Maplewood Friends Group is securing construction funding for this collaborative project.
To rehabilitate plumbing, electrical, and weather-tightness, and restore interior finishes on the log residence of the Marcell Ranger Station, constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps and listed in the National Register of Historic Places
A qualified historical architect was contracted to prepare a Historic Structures Report for the Marine Village Hall in downtown Marine on the St. Croix. The Hall, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, has served as housing for government offices since it's 1888 construction. The completed Report provides the building history as well as a comprehensive analysis of its structural integrity. It also provides professional guidance for assessment and prioritization of future preservation efforts.
The Marine on St. Croix Innovative Stormwater Management Implementation is a partnership, formalized through an MOU, between Marine on St. Croix (MOSC) and the Carnelian-Marine-St. Croix Watershed District (CMSCWD) to improve stormwater management in the most densely developed areas of the City on a neighborhood zone approach rather than site-by-site (parcel) approach for greater and more impactful results in accomplishing District and City stormwater management goals.
To complete stabilization and rehabilitation of the masonry foundation of the Marine Engine House and Village Hall, listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
This grant application is being submitted for funding for the implementation portion of the Scott County Historical Society’s upcoming exhibit “Marking Time: The Rituals of Life & Death”. Virtually every society in the world practice rituals marking the significant transitions between birth and death.
Wiyounkihipi (We Are Capable) Productions will be a platform for Dakota voices to publish and pass on their teachings to future generations. We will be a resource hub that publishes children's books of the Dakota culture and language. Writers and artists will be professionally supported through profile pages, encouraging educators from around the state to invite them into their schools through in-person or virtual meetings, so that there is authentic Native representation in our classrooms.
The primary goal of the Marsh Lake Ecosystem Restoration Project is, “To return the Marsh Lake area ecosystem to a less degraded and more natural condition by restoring ecosystem structure and functions.” Work was completed on this project in March 2020 and consisted of a new water control structure to allow for water level management, restoration of the Pomme de Terre River to its original channel, and establishment of a fishway to allow for movement of native fish.
The goals of Phase I of the Marsh River Watershed (WRW) Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy (WRAPS) project are to: 1) gather or develop watershed data needed for the development of the WRAPS project; 2) establish project and sub-basin work groups, develop a social outcomes strategy, and develop a civic engagement evaluation strategy to guide the WRAPS project; and 3) begin to identify, create, and organize tools that can be used to determine potential stressors and priority management areas.

Phase 2 of the Marsh River Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy (WRAPS) project includes: continued civic engagement; production of the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) study, which allocates pollutant load reductions for impaired waters; and production of the WRAPS report, which identifies implementation strategies that will maintain or improve water quality in many lakes and streams throughout the watershed.
To bring a new cultural performance to the Marshall County Fair. Programming included a performance by Williams and Ree, a duo that singes traditional Americana and Native American songs and recounts early local folklore.
To add and enhance arts programming at the Marshall County Fair. Funds will be used to host a master puppeteer and a bluegrass band, and to improve the performance area by enhancing the lighting, adding electrical outlets and wiring.
