Publication, in book format, of a narrative history of a "company town," Silver Bay, Minnesota, based on interviews with longtime residents (interviews and transcriptions funded by a previous Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund grant) and on interviews previously collected by the Bay Area Historical Society.
Final stages of implementation of the first-in-the-nation public natural filtration swimming pool at Webber Park, which is within North Mississippi Regional Park. Work will include design, engineering, and construction of landscaping, stormwater management, grading and drainage, furniture, and signage.
The purpose of this grant is to build on what was created with last year’s grant funding by creating a Dakota Language and culture institute. The purpose of the institute is to offer multilevel teacher training seminars and Dakota language and culture immersion sessions for intergenerational groups.
To bring arts and cultural heritage activities to the fair. The fair will provide an arts center where children can work with art instructors on art projects, host a lumberjack show highlighting MN's logging history, and offer canning and food preservation workshops.
Connecting People to the Outdoors - A Parks and Trails Strategic Objective is a program area representing DNR's commitment to one of the four pillars identified in the 25 year Legacy plan. The Legacy plan identifies its purpose to better develop Minnesota's stewards of tomorrow through efforts to increase life-long participation in parks and trails. The purpose of this program is to call attention to the pillar, but also to centralize and streamline reporting on other related programs within the pillar.
Educating Minnesotans about conservation issues and how they can engage in conservation activities is critical to the stewardship of our state’s natural resources. Legacy funds have been used to create new programs and expand existing activities to bring zoo guests and citizens statewide in close contact with animals and demonstrate the ways people can participate in conservation in their own backyard. The Conservation Partners Legacy Grant Program will be managed by the Department of Natural Resources to provide competitive matching grants of up to $400,000 to local, regional, state, and national non-profit organizations and government entities. In it's first 7 years of funding, the CPL program has provided 410 grants totaling $37 million to 133 different grantee organizations, positively affecting over 220,000 acres of habitat. Demand for CPL grants has continued to grow each year as new grantees hear about the program and successful grantees return.
In partnership with the University of Minnesota Duluth’s Natural Resources Research Institute, scientists and veterinarians from the Zoo are tracking moose in northeastern Minnesota to better understand their habitat and habits. This project will result in management recommendations to enable Minnesota’s moose population to be sustained into the future.
In partnership with other conservation agencies and organizations, the Zoo aims to prevent the extinction of Minnesota’s native prairie butterflies.
Legacy funding has allowed the Zoo to expand our education programs, both at the Zoo and throughout the state. By expanding existing programs and developing new programs we are able to reach a broader audience. We are increasing offerings for all ages in many different ways. Public opportunities to interact with Zoo staff have increased, and continue to expand. We are able to offer new programing to our guests, taking advantage of the new Target Learning Center space. The arts are being used, including theater, sculpture, and other media.
The Division of Parks and Trails (as directed by Chapter 172, Art. 3, Sec. 2, Subd. 3(c)) utilizes Conservation Corps of Minnesota services for restoration, maintenance, and other activities that supplement the ability to reach Legacy Fund goals. Budget associated with this program area capture an accounting of dollars that support CCM Summer Youth, Individual Placements, and special projects for park and trail renewal and development. Other dollars not accounted for in this program area are part of other PAT program areas and included as part of those budgets.
Lake Elmo Park Reserve. Construct trailhead building at winter recreation area, construct new well, septic, site lighting, trails, parking, and related infrastructure, landscaping and amenities.
Provide continued contract management and customer service to OHF pass-through appropriation recipients. Ensure funds are expended in compliance with appropriation law, state statute, grants policies, and approved accomplishment plans.
Manage appropriations to DNR to pass through to recipients in compliance with accomplishment plans and state grant management policies. Coordinate the Technical Evaluation Panel responsible for evaluating habitat restoration projects.
To survey the exterior of the building, make historically sensitive recommendations, and create construction-ready documents for needed improvements that will enhance the exterior of the historic building without negatively impacting the historic structure.
This project is for Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy (WRAPS) development in the Rainy River Headwaters watershed. The recipient will provide support for outreach and engagement in Rainy River Headwaters and Lake Superior North watersheds. They will also support watershed gap monitoring and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) gage monitoring.
