In July 2000 the Minnesota Zoo opened the Wells Fargo Family Farm to focus attention on the past, present, and possible future of the Minnesota family farm. Since that time, millions have visited the farm to learn about our farming heritage.
The purpose of the grant was to collect prepatory information and purchase necessary equipment to carry out a microfilming project, to preserve and make accessible records of individual townships within Mower County from the earliest date possible through 2008. To complete this work, the Project Director met with members of the Minnesota Historical Society staff and a microfilming agent to learn about the microfilming and record preparation process. In 2018 the Great River Children's Museum, (GRCM) received a building worth $1,500,000 from Liberty Bank. Since receiving this gift, the Board of Directors has completed a Museum Strategic Master Plan with Vergeront Museum Planning, a predesign plan and building condition assessment with JLG Architects, a hazardous building materials assessment with Braun Intertec, and a marketing plan with Gearbox Marketing.
Minnesota’s 12 regional public library systems, which encompass 350 public libraries in all areas of the state, benefit from a portion of the Legacy Amendment’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Through State Library Services, a division of the Minnesota Department of Education, each regional public library system receives a formula-driven allocation from the annual $3 million Minnesota Regional Library Legacy Grant.
MNHS is engaged in cultivating meaningful relationships with adult audiences as lifelong learners, members, donors, volunteers and supporters. The Writing Your Family Legacy Conference, held in partnership with the Loft Literary Center, returned for a second year. Participants learned how to research, write and preserve their family legacy at this all-day event. In FY17, the new MNHS Prime experiences launched for the lifelong learning audience, and included a history and dinner program series.
