Acquiring Land and Creating Opportunities - A Parks and Trails Strategic Objective is a program area representing DNR's commitment to one of the four pillars identified in the 25 year Legacy plan. The Legacy plan identifies its purpose to create new and expanded park and trail opportunities to satisfy current customers as well as to reach out to new ones. The purpose of this program is to call attention to the pillar, but also to centralize and streamline reporting on other related programs within the pillar.
Strategic planning efforts guide the expenditure of Legacy funds towards desired outcomes which are derived from public and stakeholder input, research, analysis and input from a variety of experts and leadership. Parks and Trails planners conduct these efforts. Staffing levels were adjusted to complete this legacy work.
Complete efficient, time-sensitive acquisition of high priority State Park inholdings, conduct needed site cleanup, and convey the properties to the state to enhance Minnesota's environment and public recreation opportunities.
Contractor assistance with site selection, reconnaissance and obtaining access for installation of ambient groundwater monitoring wells in Ramsey county and Hennepin county. This project will provide services and oversight of the installation for up to 16 well sites.
In order to implement its Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund (ACHF) projects, the Minnesota Historical Society hired an ACHF Program Coordinator to oversee the program administration. The Society also made investments to support administration of the grants program and to fund expanded financial management and administrative functions. By carefully managing its costs, the Society has adhered to the legislative mandate that institutions not spend more than 2.5 percent on administrative expenses.

The Society is diligently working to keep administrative costs low while adhering to the legislative mandate that costs be “directly related to and necessary for a specific appropriation.”
Included in this line are the direct costs of the Legacy project manager and related expenses, along with a portion of the statewide indirect costs billed by MMB. MNHS has followed the guidance provided by MMB in the calculation of the indirect cost rate, assessing the costs under the formula and calculation of the federal indirect cost rate as approved and audited by our cognizant federal agency, the Department of the Interior. This cost is allocated to the various projects.
OurHistory Adult Adoptee Retreats are for transracial adult adoptees, ages 21+. They are a series of two, 2-day retreats. This is a time for adoptees to come together in a safe space to share experiences and to learn and grow—both individually and as an adoptee community. It is a time to focus on our identities, both as adoptees and People of Color, living in the State of Minnesota.
This project will develop innovative and low-cost biofilters to decrease the concentration of nitrous oxide (N2O), a strong greenhouse gas and ozone layer destructor.
African Economic Development Solutions will sustain and expand funding development team skills, this funding would support training, coaching, and overall support. The project has the following key objectives: 1) hire expertise to train staff on fund development planning; 2) grant writing training and support; 3) grant research; 4) grants management and reporting; 5) sponsorship fundraising; 6) grant application writing for humanities programs.
The Givens Foundation will host a African American Literary Conference, slated for April 2025, to explore emerging themes, trends, and issues in Black American literature. Our collaboration with the Archie Givens Sr. Collection of African American Literature will elevate the discourse, fostering critical engagement. 1) Public Forum: Engaging the general public, as well as emerging and established writers, scholars, critics, agents, publishers, booksellers, educators, and students.
The AgBMP Loan Program provides needed funding for local implementation of clean water practices at an extremely low cost, is unique in its structure, and is not duplicated by any other source of funding. The AgBMP loan program provides 3% loans through local lenders to farmers, rural landowners, and agriculture supply businesses. Funds are used for proven practices that prevent non-point source water pollution or solve existing water quality problems.
A robot, powered by solar energy, will be developed to control weeds on agricultural lands. We envision significant reductions in fossil-fuel and herbicide use while increasing local energy production.
As an organization of African American visual artists, our purpose is to use the art inspired by our lived experiences to engage residents of traditionally white suburban communities in transformative conversations and activities that heal the breach and create mutual understanding. This project seeks funds to support AHHA! artists through a planning process that will empower them to present their creative visions of racial justice as a pedagogy that enriches the secondary school curriculum.
