YourClassical MPR: Class Notes Music Education
Even in Minnesota, where we have a vibrant performing arts culture, we cannot take for granted access to great music in daily life and as a fundamental part of our education system. As a regional and national leader in classical music programming, YourClassical MPR helps connect students to high-quality music experiences.
Class Notes is YourClassical MPR's signature education initiative. The program serves Minnesota teachers, students, and performing artists. Reaching tens of thousands of Minnesota K-12 students each year, the program delivers live concerts performed in Minnesota schools free of charge and provides a standards-based digital lesson library for teachers. By raising appreciation of classical and contemporary music in students' primary years, we are helping to grow the next generation of audiences to enjoy Minnesota music.
Class Notes artists are a mix of traditional Classical and musicians from different disciplines. The Minnesota artists who participate in the program represent the breadth of talent in the state of Minnesota with over 50% of them being female and/or BIPOC. Class Notes provides greater visibility and awareness for them. By collaborating with MPR, artists often get to create high-quality video and audio assets- an opportunity they might not have otherwise. Class Notes also coaches participating artists on best practices in educational performance, providing a valuable professional development tool for artists.
Now in its 10th year, Class Notes has refined the content and delivery of Class Notes Concerts to include both live and virtual concerts and is poised for growth and even greater impact. Over the coming two years, in addition to live concerts in schools throughout Minnesota, Class Notes will be focusing on upgrading the Class Notes website user experience for teachers, families and others who want to access the program's online resources, including Class Notes Digital Concerts and the Class Notes Lesson Library, which now has more than 100 lessons.
