Project Overview

A series of performances and workshops were held in multiple locations, focusing on an adult audience, that explored storytelling traditions and new storytelling methods. The emphasis was on the ways in which music can be used to tell stories that may embody serious moral and cultural issues as well as historical events.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Survey responses indicated increased knowledge of how music assists in telling stories.  The majority of suggestions for further programs indicated that the "story" aspect of these events was clearly understood because the recommendations were for performers with strong storytelling skills.91% of the Elisa Korenne survey respondents indicated that they had learned more about Minnesota history in an enjoyable way.New respondents:  75% of the respondents for the Neal Hagberg concert had not attended a library program before, while only 48% of the Douglas Wood respondents indicated that.  97% of respondents had not attended a musical program at the library.An average of 88.6% of respondents wanted more musical storytelling programs in local libraries.
