KWCM - Pioneer Series Production
The Pioneer Series Production consists of two separate programs.
Postcards tells stories about the people of western Minnesota. Season six will focus on communities, artists, performers, and local heritage through 16 half-hour episodes. Because Pioneer’s broadcast signal reaches an area from Detroit Lakes to Luverne, most of the stories will come from communities within that broadcast area.
Prairie Yard and Garden is produced through a long-standing partnership with the University of Minnesota Morris. In each year of the biennium, the series is expected to start a new season in January. Two segments within this series each year will focus on the arts, history or cultural heritage associated with the outdoors. In past years, these segments have included stories on sculpture gardens, the history of agriculture, and Native American landscapes.
$3,700,000 the first year and $3,700,000 the second year are for grants to the Minnesota Public Television Association for production and acquisition grants according to Minnesota Statutes, section 129D.18.
Production and broadcast distribution of 16 half-hour episodes of the Postcards programs each year of the biennium, with repeat broadcasts, and program made available to other stations within the Minnesota Public Television Association Acquisition from the University of Minnesota Morris of special arts, history or cultural heritage content within the Prairie Yard & Garden series and/or the Postcards program Posting of production content to the station's web site and promotion of the program's content within the station's viewing area
