Project Overview
It seems that everyone wants to see bluebirds nest in their yard. And who doesn't like the enthusiastic song belted out by the "Ethel Merman" of the bird world: the little house wren? They're welcome in just about everyone's backyard. But what about the birds who make nests where you don't want them - and the birds that dive-bomb you when you get near? Most people are surprised to learn that it is illegal (as in heavy fine and jail time) to disturb bird nests - including swallows. Backyard bird expert Heidi Hughes will explain how to "co-exist" with birds that annoy you and how to encourage those that delight. This program is all about birds that nest in boxes. She'll provide tips on how many nest boxes are too many - and how to select , build, install and monitor bird nest boxes. Bring a box or two - along with your questions.
