The Thief River is impaired due to low Dissolved Oxygen and high Turbidity levels resulting from high sediment load. These impairments affect the drinking water supply of Thief River Falls in addition to fish spawning habitat and recreation. The Erosion, Sedimentation and Sediment Yield Report completed in 1996 found that 63% of the sediment originates from the streambank of the Thief River. The Pennington Soil and Water Conservation District is therefore targeting the major sediment sources along the river.
The specific purpose of the project was to conduct an evaluation of the University of Minnesota Duluth Museums' Mechanical Systems (also called the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system or HVAC system) to determine what changes and improvements are feasible and necessary to improve the environmental conditions in each of three buildings: Glensheen, Tweed Museum of Art along with a proposed Tweed museum storage and work space on the second floor of the Chester Building.

To produce a new exhibit on early county healthcare, the Beltrami County Historical Society (BCHS) drew from primary records in local and state repositories and used the funds for the research and development phase of the exhibit. The exhibit follows the path of early healthcare in Beltrami County including traditional healing, the history of North Country Hospital and Lake Julia Sanatorium to dentistry.
MNHS exhibitions are supported by diverse programming that complements the content of the exhibitions. These additional programs augment and promote the rich stories of Minnesota's history. An engineering professional conducted a review of the Bois Forte Heritage Center HVAC systems, their operation, capacity and capability to maintain tight temperature and humidity conditions. In addition, they presented recommendations for addressing current concerns and improving systems performance and efficiency.
Minnesota Association of Museums collaborates with the Minnesota Historical Society in providing professional development and support to history museum professionals across the state. In FY15, this partnership will assist with the funding of a part-time managing coordinator to begin implementing findings on history museum continuing education needs.
This project had three components: 1) An arts club that meets weekly and provides arts education and peer mentoring; 2) A theater play that will showcase issues/challenges within the Somali community in the community. The workshops are designed to introduce youth to traditional Somali arts and encourage them to extend the tradition through their own artistic practice. 3) Showcasing Somali Art, presentation and intercultural community engagement at the Somali Independence day Festival in 2016.
Currently, there are approximately 5,050 feedlots with fewer than 300 animal units that need to come into compliance with State feedlot rules.
