Staff members will spend a total of 16 days with four elder-first speakers engaged in language associated with pregnancy, birthing, newborns, infants, toddlers, cradleboard, moss bags, baby swing, and baby rattles. We will make audio-video recordings of these training sessions to have as a detailed record and reference tool.

The Little Red Schoolhouse has a long history in Kanabec County. Built in 1882 for $350, it served as the first schoolhouse for School District No. 2 before finding a home on the fairgrounds. The Little Red Schoolhouse is home to children's art displays and a variety of activities. Funds will provide a new roof, repair the ceiling, and make the necessary adaptations to make the building handicap accessible. Additionally, period costumes will be purchased and a teacher will be hired for programming.

Three streambank stabilization projects have been identified as high priority projects in the Thief River Falls Water Quality Study completed in 2017. The proposal will use a combination of bendway weirs, toe protection by building a floodplain bench and live stake plantings. It has been estimated that a total of 385 tons per year of sediment from these three locations is entering the river contributing to the impairment downstream.

This project will help restore and protect two unique resources in southern Washington County - Trout Brook and Lake St. Croix. Previous assessments identified the 100 sites in southern Washington County that contribute the most to the existing excess nutrient problem and declining water quality of Lake St. Croix. Twenty-two of those sites are in the Trout Brook watershed and also contribute to sediment and turbidity that are degrading habitat in this cold-water stream.
