Forest Lake is one of the top recreational lakes in the metro area and protecting its water quality is a top priority for the Comfort Lake Forest Lake Watershed District. While not currently on the impaired waters list, the water quality of Forest Lake is very near the water quality standard. Shields Lake has been identified as the single largest pollutant contributor to Forest Lake. This project proposes to impound water from a tributary to Shields Lake for golf course irrigation reuse, reducing watershed phosphorus loads to Shields Lake.
Shingle Creek in suburban Hennepin County has experienced significant changes since its days as a narrow, meandering prairie stream. Nearly 100 years ago much of the stream was straightened and dredged to provide better drainage for agriculture. As agriculture gave way to urban and suburban development, Shingle Creek was widened and dredged again to more efficiently convey stormwater to the Mississippi River. Urbanization has resulted in high levels of chloride in the stream from road salt and not enough dissolved oxygen to sustain aquatic life.
This request will transform 1.6 miles of Shingle Creek in north Minneapolis into a functioning ecological corridor, leveraging an additional $3.27 million in planned recreational improvements.

State leadership for the 4-H Shooting Sports & Wildlife Program, including staff and 4-H volunteer committee members, will provide a menu of equipment options for local programs to choose from as a means to build their Shooting Sports & Wildlife project. Local programs will submit a grant application justifying how the new equipment will help them build and grow their program, attract and engage new audiences, and provide sustainability in their local chapter.
The St. Croix River is one of the most pristine, large river ecosystems remaining in the upper Mississippi River System. Washington County, in partnership with the City of Stillwater, is using this appropriation to acquire 15 acres containing 3,500 feet of St. Croix River shoreline just north of downtown Stillwater and parallel to the Brown’s Creek State Trail. The land will be turned into a local nature park for trail users, river users, tourists, and area residents with passive recreation including fishing, boat launching, walking, and picnicking.
The Project will provide water quality improvements through shoreline stabilization, shoreline fishing improvements and shoreline ADA access on the island in Silver Lake within Silverwood Park, St. Anthony MN.
To construct an Arts and Heritage Center on the fair grounds. The Sibley County Fair will erect an Arts and Heritage Center with a 40 foot stage and two dressing rooms. The building will primarily serve as an educational arts and culture center for the fair. The fair will present acts on the stage from six to eight hours per day during the fair.
To rehabilitate the original horse racing judges’ stand. The stand is the last relic of the 143 year old fair grounds and dates back to the late 1800’s. The stand is comprised of a first story entry and refreshment area, and an upper section for judging the races. It’s 360 degree observation of the track was made possible by its hexagon shape and large doors that could be lifted when needed on each side. This is the first stage of the multi-year restoration of this prized building and is an important part of the plan to initiate a daily educational program at the fair.
The proposed project area covers roughly one hundred square miles within Sibley County, but also includes a small portion of Nicollet County where Judicial Ditch 1A runs into the south branch of the Rush River. One lake and seven streams are part of the proposed project monitoring sites. Of the seven stream locations, two are part of the High Island Creek Watershed, while the remaining five are part of the Rush River Watershed. The lone lake, Lake Washington, falls within the Bevens Creek Watershed.
This project replaced the waterlines at the Sibley State Park that service the toilet/shower buildings and the drinking water supply in the Oak Ridge camground.
The purpose of this project is to create an inventory and priority list of where inlet control and buffer strips are needed along Judicial Ditch 15 to reduce the nutrients, sediment and volume of water being transported by field tile. This will help protect landowner drainage needs, while focusing on applicable best management practices that will reduce on-field and in-channel peak flow erosion. This ditch system is the headwaters to Cokato Lake, which connects to the North Fork Crow River.

This project, Silsiladda Soomaaliyeed, which in the Somali language describes the interconnectivity of the Somali people and culture, is a comprehensive cultural project by The Qalanjo Project aimed at preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Somali community through various artistic expressions in Minnesota.
The Wright Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) will expand its partnership with its USDA partners; this will be the first time that SWCD staff will conduct compliance spot checks for USDA Highly Erodible Land plans. This activity will add a level of certainty that these plans are in compliance.
This project will reduce phosphorus loading from the watershed tributary to Silver Lake. The project includes a combination of structural water quality improvements in the SLV-10 subwatershed north of the lake, retrofits (including iron enhanced sand filtration) to the Silver Lake bioretention basin, small scale best management practices (BMPs) throughout the watershed, and educational signage in Joy Park. The elements of this project will reduce phosphorus loading to Silver Lake by a combined 15 pounds per year or 40% of the current watershed load.
Development of a Multi-Modal Trailhead Center that provides ample parking, safe access to non-motorized and motorized trails, a multi-use building with lavatories/showers, picnic/playgrounds, and conveniently located.
The City of Rochester is proposing to modify the Silver Lake Dam with a fish passage rock arch rapids in 2025. This project is the first step in a comprehensive, long-term approach to modify all low head dams in the City to improve habitat connectivity in the South Fork Zumbro River network. The existing dam will be moved 700-ft upstream from the Broadway Avenue bridge, and fish passage ramp and wave pools constructed downstream of the dam crest. The dam conversion will add 16 miles of connected habitat and benefit state-threatened and native mussel species, as well as smallmouth bass.

Reconstruction & renovation of the Silver Lake Walking Trail in order to allow safe multi-modal transportation between schools, parks, community recreation facilities and other community activity centers in Downtown Virginia.
The Chippewa River Watershed Project will work with local partners, such as Land Stewardship Project, soil and water conservation districts, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service, to restore water quality in Lake Gilchrist, Simon Lake, Lake Johanna and in Mud Creek, and to protect unimpaired water resources in the watershed. This will be done through implementation of Best Management Practices focusing on the reduction of phosphorous, sediment, and runoff in the landscape, primarily by increasing the landscape's ability to retain water.
