The three (3) long-range goals of the Upper Sioux Community regarding the preservation and continuation of the Dakota language and culture are directly tied to the Mission Statement adopted in 1996 and delineated in the 2008 Dakota Language Revitalization Tribal Resolution that promises to: 1) Make Dakota Language revitalization the highest priority 2) Implement all strategies to revive the Dakota language; and 3) take necessary steps to raise up a new generation of speakers.

The three (3) long-range goals of the Upper Sioux Community regarding the preservation and continuation of the Dakota langauge and culture are directly tied to the Mission Statement adopted in 1996 and delineated in the 2008 Dakota Language Revitalization Tribal Resoulution that promises to: "1) [m]ake Dakota Language revitalization the highest priority 2)... implement all strategies to revive the Dakota language; and 3)... take necessary steps to raise up a new generation of speakers."

The project included documenting all existing interpretive panels and markers of the U.S. - Dakota War in the MN River Valley and researching potential sites for new interpretive panels or markers. The end result is a written document with an inventory of existing marked U.S. - Dakota War sites in the MN River Valley, research of unmarked sites and an overall strategy of which sites could be marked to better tell the story. The report will provides guidance in telling a more complete story of the U.S. - Dakota War of 1862 through interpretive markers.

Conservation of culture including art and local wisdom is one of the main missions of our organization. We operate in promoting and capturing values to create pride in Lao culture and identity, as well as create awareness of morality to the community as well. Our organization encourages and supports all cultures to develop, preserve and pass on the activities that we as an organization help operate with communities and outside agencies.

To edit the USS Essex log books in order to make them more publicly accessible.

Editing/Transcription is the second of three projects documenting and preserving the Maritime Heritage Minnesota's historical/archaeological investigation and assessment of the USS Essex Shipwreck, listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Five out of twenty-five of the vessel's previously digitized log books were edited, combined into .pdf e-books, transcribed and processed which included the creation of metadata for the digital images. The information resulting from this project is available for public access on Internet Archive.

As a pilot project  for the grantee, Maritime Heritage Minnesota (MHS) the goal was to digitalize 6-10 of the 62 known log books of the USS Essex log books held at the National Archives and Records Administration and the United States Naval Academy.

After twelve days not only did they digital the entirety of the 62 log books but they were able to digitalize a private journal of a USS Essex sailor as well as a hand written journal of a sailor who served on her maiden voyage within the time allotted for the project (101 hours). In total 21,499 images were produced. 

Archival newspaper storage boxes were purchased to rehouse the Verndale newspaper collection at the Wadena County Historical Society. The newspapers were sorted by oldest dates to newest dates on top. Labels were put on the boxes to identify the contents of each. The newspaper collection is now in better storage conditions than prior to the project.

It empowers Veterans to speak in their own voices through plays, discussions, literature, and the Veterans’ Voices Award. Veterans’ Voices will recognize the next great generation and illustrate that the Veteran’s voice is essential to the work of building our great democracy. 

To create and implement curricula that meets Minnesota Education Standards and enables more thorough student access to veteran's history.

The Carver County Historical Society proposed to develop educational programs that would more fully utilize the newly redesigned Veterans Gallery. The programs were developed through a two-stage process. The first stage, developed for this grant, was fact finding in cooperation with Carver County educators. The second stage, would be program development.

It empowers Veterans to speak in their own voices through plays, discussions, literature, and the Veterans’ Voices Award. Veterans’ Voices will recognize the next great generation and illustrate that the Veteran’s voice is essential to the work of building our great democracy. 

Veterans' Voices: Native Warriors will give Native American students in Minnesota the opportunity to hear memories and stories directly from Native American veterans from within their communities. Funds will also be used to create radio segments featuring the Native American veterans sharing their personal experiences in their own words. These segments will air statewide and be archived online giving all Minnesotans access now and in the future.

Veterans on the Lake Resort, a not-for-profit resort, will provide a barrier-free setting for a memorable outdoor recreation experience for disabled persons, with priority to disabled veterans, veterans, their families, friends and supporters; designed with veterans in mind, recognizing what they have contributed to and sacrificed for our nation; ensuring that they can fully participate in Minnesota's outdoor cultural heritage.

Well drilling to provide larger reservoir of water to meet peak demand

Because of an increase in the number of donated items as well as an increase in museum visitors, the Lac qui Parle Historical Society determined to upgrade the security system. Nine high-resolution cameras, a monitor and a digital recorder were installed to increase the security of the Historical Society's holdings.

A documentary-type retrospective video was produced featuring the Minnesota Newspaper Museum at the 2010 Minnesota State Fair. More than eight hours of footage was filmed and used to produce the 15 minute DVD. The final product explains letterpress printing from start to finish including segments on the Linotype, Page Composition, the press, job shop and finally, a section on the editorial/news function of a newspaper. The final section also stresses the importance of newspapers, yesterday and today, in a democratic society.

To document in 3 to 4 interviews the history of the dance community in the Twin Cities.

To provide a program to honor Vietnam Vets from Pennington County. The fair will host a musician to perform at the fair, and with the help of the VFW and local Legion/Auxiliary, hold a program to honor veterans.

Our grant application seeks to promote and preserve Vietnamese culture through the use of traditional Lunar New Year celebration which includes storytelling, music and dance.
