We will use this grant to focus on the rich history of agriculture in Minnesota through presentations and displays by photographers Doug Ohman and AJ Kern. We're promoting art in our area and state through the chainsaw art of Curt Ingvoldstad and the hands-on demonstrations of Lisa Douglas. The antique tractor display at our fairgrounds will be a bit more educational with a sign displaying the various types of tractors, along with facts about some that are on display.
The demographic for Benton County needs access to quality arts and culture and historical programming. We will utilize our Activity Area and Cottonwood Stage to introduce some art forms to the visitors of our Benton County Fair programming. Our fair has a high attendance and it provides the perfect opportunity to enhance an introduction to arts through our programming and events.
We are planning to bring several musical groups to the fair that will highlight the cultural heritage of our county. We are rich in German and European culture in our area and will be bringing several polka bands in for afternoon entertainment. We will also be including a chainsaw artist this year and are very excited for the new demonstrations that he will be bringing to the grounds. We will bring a blacksmith to the fair as well for demonstrations, something that we have been working to include at our fair for some time.
We would like to have our local blacksmith's guild members give demonstrations throughout the week of our fair in the blacksmith shop located in our Heritage Village on the fairgrounds. We could get many demonstrators to demonstrate the equipment that we have in our heritage village buildings such as spinning, weaving, quilting, and cooking. We also may have an opportunity to have a threshing demonstration by the local machinery men that meet here in Dakota County. We hope to contract a chainsaw artist and/or the Paul Bunyan Live show to have here the week of the fair.
We will be applying these funds toward two German heritage musical bands (Chuck Thiel and the Jolly Ramblers and The Wendinger Brothers) and also a 50's & 60's Rock n' Roll show band (Butch Automatic & The Four Speeds featuring The Bingo's).
Church of Cash, an Elvis Impersonator, a blacksmith, and Smokin' Joe and the Tailpipes are all lined up to be on the Lumber Depot Free Stage at the East Otter Tail County Fair. The Minnesota performers will perform a tribute to Johnny Cash and Elvis. A blacksmith will be set up on the side of the park shelter, continually doing demonstrations so that fairgoers can interact with him. Smokin' Joe and the Tailpipes are a local Dent, MN group that will perform a variety of songs.
Homeward Bound Theatre, a Minnesota-based company, will bring THE OZ BROTHERS to perform at the Fair on July 25 and 26, with 2 stage shows each day plus they will also be strolling around the fairgrounds to entertain fairgoers. The Big Top Tent Rental from Luverne, MN will provide a 40 x 40 tent for the performers and for fairgoers.
By continuing to showcase a variety of Minnesota entertainment, we can show off the talent that Minnesota has to offer and provide the citizens of Nobles County with music they maybe normally wouldn't be exposed to. This can lead to an appreciation for either a new instrument, a new genre, or maybe even a different culture.
Hire Ag Inspire for the duration of the 2024 fair: Ag Inspire is a non-profit organization, that creates educational exhibits to teach kids and adults the impact agriculture has on their lives. We also expect to have the ethanol racer and barn displays exhibiting in our new rabbit/poultry barn.
Activity items include a chisel plow shank and shovel.
Wanda the Clown plays Kazoo, ukulele, sings, juggles preforms magic, shares her sillness and fun with all ages. Wonda the Clown is with Homeward Bound Theater Company in Chanhassen, MN.
The Route 68 Band (Big Band Sounds) is a group of musicians from southwest Minnesota.
They will be our band for Senior Citizens Day.
RJ Kern's photography shows feature storytelling and agricultural photography and will be coming to our fair this summer. RJ does different shows: Being a National Geographic agricultural photographer; Being a Commemorative Artist for the Minnesota State Fair; The Unchosen Ones: Advice for 4-H Competitors and Life Skills Learned in 4-H; iPhoneography Tips for Your Award-Winning Photography; History of Agricultural Photography 101;

We bring many artistic programs to the fair each year. We plan to have a balloonologist this year. It is an amazing form of art that needs to be kept alive. It is truly amazing to watch them twist and turn a balloon in no time, and turn it into art! That takes a lot of talent and practice to be able to do this.
We would like to use the Legacy grant to help fund Minnesota bands in our entertainment building. This year we are looking at a "rock" band for Friday night, which will attract the younger crowd to the fair. On Sunday we highlight Senior Citizens, Farm Family Recognition and have a musician that plays old country and gospel music. For the younger youth on the fairgrounds we have free face painting on the grounds Saturday.
This year we'd like to use our Legacy funds to promote the history of Minnesota agriculture through the presentations of Doug Ohman. We're also excited to welcome back chainsaw artist Kurt Ingvaldson to showcase his unique talents. We'll have a spinning demonstration from a local artisan along with music from local jazz and blue grass bands. There are plans to have a local artist repaint our livestock barn signs and we're also looking at creating signs for our antique tractor display to better inform the public about the historical types of tractors.
The following 3 shows are what we are planning for the Cannon Valley 2024 Fair through Homeward Bound: 1) Mandana's ABC (Agriculture, Balloons, and Comedy) Extravaganza! 2) Dr. Street You are Magic Nick's magic inspires imaginations! He will show children how to believe in their dreams. 3) Alfy's Robotic Puppets: Through the ?magic? of radio control, these life-like puppets will be visiting and sharing jokes and quips with unsuspecting event goers.
Minnesota Teaching Artists from African, Indigenous, Latinx, and/or Asian heritages, will develop & deliver community-inspired arts programs that teach an art form with roots in their cultural heritage. Artists will select the Minnesota community where their residency will be delivered, focusing on increasing access to the art form. Over the course of multiple sessions, participants will learn the art form's cultural context, artists from that culture who have influenced it, and create the art form.
During the 2016 Legislative Session, the Minnesota State Legislature asked the Minnesota Humanities, $75,000 the first year is for a grant to the city of St. Paul or Ramsey County to develop and install activity facilities in parks for Takraw courts that are reflective of the current demographics in Ramsey County. This grant is available if the recipient provides at least a 25 percent match for funding.
This project is a new initiative that will celebrate and teach art, culture, and heritage. It will be operated by PRIMEtime, an out-of-school time network that provides after school and summer activities at no cost for more than 2,500 youth each year. Implementation of CULTUREtime will greatly expand arts & music impact while also launching a brand-new series of cultural activities that lift up the heritages of Rice County's Somali, Latinx, and LGBTQIA+ communities.
This project will utilize a classroom in the Child Development Laboratory School at 921 17th Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN, and includes a dedicated classroom, separate outdoor play and learning area, staff office, bathroom, and laundry room to support the Dakota Language Nest. The grant is needed to fund staff to teach in the classroom, including developing curriculum, recruiting families, and implementing the early childhood program.
By creating an active and joyful Dakota-speaking community learning environment, we anticipate that the proposed Dakota Iapi Teunhindapi project will result in: A unique language learning model for Dakota youth in rural southwestern Minnesota, Increased trust, confidence, and ability to speak the Dakota language with adults, elders and other youth in our rural region, Sustainable community expectations and skills to continue speaking together into the future, and Language lessons in the form of flash cards the students can work with at home, exposing others in their families to the vocabula
1. Engage young people in learning Dakhota and inspire them to parent and teach Dakhota to their future generations 2. Increase teacher access to engaging Dakhota language materials for classroom use and beyond 3. Engage elders and cultural experts in the co-creation of Dakhota-medium curriculum and materials that transmits traditional knowledge 4. Expand Dakhota learning communities through the production and dissemination of the textbook and accompanying materials.

The Department of Public Transformation will hire a Development Consultant to lead the Board and staff toward more sustainable and intentional fundraising strategies. Specifically, a consultant teaches skills in building annual giving programs, creating audit systems and policies, coach staff and board on effective fundraising strategies, and implement processes that can evolve as the organization continues to grow.
To digitize a collection of archival videos of the theater's performances and other activities, allowing for greater public access to these historic resources.
