Filmmaker Joua Lee Grande and her team will complete feature-length documentary Spirited, host feedback sessions and develop an Impact Campaign to create curriculum, community screenings and discussions that focus on the film's topic of Hmong shamanism, how it is changing in modern-day Minnesota, and how it exists alongside current issues.
Native trout require clean, cold water that usually originates from springs, but the springs feeding the 173 designated trout streams in southeastern Minnesota are under increasing pressure from current and expected changes in land use. This joint effort by the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is working to identify and map the springs and the areas that feed water to these springs and to learn how these waters might be affected by development and water use.

Eroding streambanks along Bassett Creek are reducing the water quality of the creek and the Mississippi River. This project consists of stabilizing a 3,100 foot reach of Bassett Creek mostly located within Theodore Wirth Regional Park. The proposed stabilization measures will result in an estimated reduction of 52 tons of sediment and 60 pounds phosphorus per year.
The City of Eden Prairie and the Riley Purgatory Bluff Creek Watershed District are jointly developing and implementing a restoration plan for Staring Lake that includes nutrient reductions and carp management. The City of Eden Prairie, through a comprehensive pond inspection program, identified high priority ponds and subwatersheds for nutrient reductions in the Staring Lake watershed. Several ponds were identified as excellent candidates for iron enhanced sand filtration.
Having current and accurate data on historic and archaeological sites is important to understanding our past and to preserving Minnesota’s history for future generations. In 2010-2011, the Minnesota Historical Society awarded contracts for these survey projects:

We will deploy acoustic detectors and revisit roost trees identified in our previous ENRTF project to measure effect of seven years of white-nose syndrome on Minnesota bats.
To bring new history and arts experiences to the Carlton County Fair. Projects will include building a structure with retractable sides to better display a historical Steam Engine, and hosting the non-profit community theater group, County Seat Theater.
To grow the capacity of the organization to preserve and interpret history through a national training standard, the Firefighter's Hall and Museum completed four of six areas of the StEPs Program at the Bronze level. The areas completed were the Mission, Values and Governance, Management, Audience and Interpretation sections. The FHM does not have historic structures or landscapes so that area does not apply. The Collections area was too large to complete before the June deadline. The Museum plans to continue the StEPs work and the collections project is a top priority.

Suburbanization has reached nearly all corners of Hennepin and Anoka Counties. The two counties are bound together by the state's largest school district: Anoka-Hennepin. Working together, the Anoka and Hennepin County Historical Societies are gathering resources located in numerous repositories so that they, and future historians, will have a logical starting place from which to draw information about the suburbanization of Anoka and Hennepin counties.
Stories & Narratives of Lake Street is a collective hxstory project focused on Lake Street in South Minneapolis- documenting narratives that currently exist- but are not uplifted. It will document the impact of Lake Street on/of BIPOC & underrepresented groups along this notable corridor, involving both Public and Oral Hxstory. This youth-led project will provide empowerment, leadership and skill-development for youth to learn and understand the impact that Lake St. has on their communities.
In partnership with Metro Blooms, the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization (MWMO) will implement stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs) at a minimum of six properties along commercial nodes targeted for re-investment by the City of Minneapolis' Business District Support program.
The Children's Discovery Museum's (CDM) new 3,000 piece Wizard of Oz (WOZ) collection will be properly archived, conservation materials purchased, and exhibit concept and design drawings completed. CDM facilitators and educators will travel to other children's museums in Minnesota for staff enrichment and professional development.
Strive engages with the community in creating Black Joy Literary Clubs that empower voices from the Black community to rise above stereotypes, demographic disparities, and negative media portrayals. We provide a platform for communal work in taking control of the Black narrative and in educating with truth and lived experience. Joy comes from sharing authentic stories and power lies within the voices of everyday Black people to break down harmful stereotypes and strengthen our community.
To hire a qualified engineer to conduct a structural assessment of the 1887 Alano Society of Minneapolis Clubhouse (John Washburn House), listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
Stubbs Bay on Lake Minnetonka is impaired for excess nutrients due to phosphorus loading. This impairment results in nuisance algae blooms that limit the recreational use of this water body. As a part of its surface water management planning process, the City of Orono has identified projects to help improve the water quality of Stubbs Bay and Lake Minnetonka. The Stubbs Bay Ravine Stabilization project is one of the projects scheduled for completion in 2011.

This project will provide complementary (same year) physical and chemical data sets for three MPCA prioritized lakes in NE Minnesota to incorporate into the overall State database for MPCA assessment purposes as well as research purposes.
Central MN Community Empowerment Organization will revitalize the use of cultural and artistic expressions for the Somali youth of Minnesota to preserve and display their cultural heritage. CMCEO plans to promote patriotism and citizenship through cultural heritage where artists are trained to compose Somali creative arts and music. This will enable youth to learn their cultural heritage and creativity in an engaging environment.
The Pine County SWCD project will collect complete sets of water quality data for the Kettle River and some of its tributaries and also collect complete sets of water quality data for six area lakes (Oak, Dago, Rhine, Elbow, Rock, and Lake Eleven).
This project will provide assessment data on the following five lakes: Venoah Lake, Spring Lake, Lac La Belle, Bear Lake, and Torch Light Lake (all within the Nemadji River Watershed and St. Louis River Watershed).
The St. Louis River Alliance will complete the data set for the water quality assessment of six target streams in the Lake Superior Basin. These streams are the Gooseberry River, Beaver River, Lester River, Big Sucker River, Split Rock River and Knife River. In addition, the St. Louis River Alliance will complete the data set for the water quality assessment of two non-target streams in the St. Louis River watershed. These two streams are Coffee Creek and Buckingham Creek. The St.
The Pioneer-Sarah Creek Watershed Assessment project will complete a condition assessment for all currently unassessed or partially assessed (i.e., incomplete datasets) lakes and streams throughout the Pioneer-Sarah Creek (PSC) watershed (South Fork of Crow River; Hennepin County).
This project will collect additional water quality and flow data on tributaries on the South Fork Crow River and Buffalo Creek. Further assessment of these reaches will provide a better understanding of what impacts these tributaries have on the impaired South Fork Crow River and Buffalo Creek.
This project will focus on collecting stream water quality data. Citizen volunteers and SWCD staff will complete water quality monitoring on two targeted stream sites in the watershed and eight additional sites including prospective MPCA biological assessment sites and DNR-Fisheries priority sites. This project will expand citizen participation into the assessment of streams in the watershed which are not included in the current TMDL study and expand data collection to a wider set of parameters.
