To hire a qualified historian to complete an updated nomination to the National Register of Historic Places for the historic Minnetonka Town Hall, now owned and used by Minnetonka Community Church.
To support students' acquisition of Ojibwe and Dakota language and culture that begins in early childhood immersion at Anishinaabe Academy and firmly establish this learning into daily, regular classroom and community behavior. Strengthen and support the existing language pathways through 12th grade and extend our focus on the development and implementation of a strong Dakota language curriculum.
A 5.8-mile shoreline assessment completed in Summer 2020 along the Mississippi River shoreline in Brooklyn Park comprehensively surveyed erosion issues and identified numerous riverfronts severely eroding into the river, contributing significant sediment and nutrient loads. The report catalogued these properties and identified a set of properties west of Banfill Island as the most critical and cost-effective for restoration.
This project is a documentary and includes working in partnership with East Side Freedom Library (ESFL) and Vietnamese Social Services (VSS) and with Cambodian American Partnership (CAP) as a program partner with the collaborative aim to provide a platform for Southeast Asian women to share their experiences preserving history, honoring more inclusively the lives impacted, and building awareness of these stories in Minnesota, of particular relevance for our state where Cambodian, Hmong, Laotian, and Vietnamese American communities established post-Vietnam War and continue to grow.
Design, engineer, and implement improvements called for in the 1982 plan for the Bohemian Flats area, and also improve various facilities throughout the park including trails, stairways, walls, and interpretive and wayfinding signs. These improvements will include trails, pathways, fishing and other river access, shoreline restoration, parking, informational signage, and visitor comfort facilities. The new master plan currently underway will use community participation to determine exact priority projects funded under this request.
The DNR has been charged by the legislature to develop rules that protect and manage the Mississippi River Corridor Critical Area (MRCCA) for natural resource, economic development, transportation, historic preservation, and other values. This project engages stakeholder groups in a public process to balance regulatory protections with local flexibility and control.
Phase 1 of this project is primarily geared towards project planning and coordination among project partners, developing an initial civic engagement strategic plan, holding a watershed kick-off meeting, and gathering and summarizing available water quality data.
This project will develop a Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy (WRAPS) report as well as Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) studies where needed. The TMDLs will provide the quantitative pollutant load reduction estimates and a set of pollutant reduction and watershed management strategies to achieve water quality standards for the impairments within the watershed. Strategies for protecting the unimpaired waters within the watershed will also be included.

The Riley-Purgatory-Bluff-Creek Watershed District and the City of Eden Prairie are working together to implement projects to remove Mitchell Lake from the impaired waters list. One key emerging issue is to evaluate potential internal phosphorous loading within stormwater ponds in the lakes? subwatersheds. This project will also use updated pond data from the city?s intensive pond inspection program to identify other phosphorus reduction opportunities. The proposed assessment will quantify formerly undocumented P loading to Mitchell Lake.
Jumping worms are an invasive, exotic that poses a threat to forests by removing soil organic matter and seedlings. It is necessary to develop IPM tactics for mitigating jumping worms.
This project is a new initiative propelled from current programming. Twin Cities Film Fest will launch MNmicro Cultural Film Festivals. Instead of just celebrating national diverse voices with some Minnesota (40%) connected films during the 10-day festival, the new program will put a spotlight on diverse voices and cultures specifically through Minnesota exclusive films during their respective nationally recognized cultural heritage celebration months.
Minnesota Legislative Society will expand the Model Legislature program to Central Minnesota through St. Cloud State University by bringing in local elected officials to participate as legislators in the process. It will incorporate caucus meetings and involve students as lobbyists. The Model Legislature event engages students directly by: working in committees that mirror standing committees of the Minnesota legislature; debating, amending, and voting on bills in committee; debating and sending to the governor for the program.
Update the state's 20-year-old native plant community classification guides to incorporate new data; streamline user application and access to products; and increase connections to evolving climate and vegetation trends.
The protection of insect-feeding animals is reliant on sustained insect abundance. We will investigate the ecological roles and energy transfer by Minnesota insects and train future insect researchers
Monkeybear's Harmolodic Workshop (Est. 2016) supports Native, Black, IPOC in developing creative and technical skills in contemporary puppetry. Their projects include puppetry workshops, new theater pieces, stop motion puppetry, open studio work and sessions.
Construction funding is needed to stabilize a unique shoreline site using a bioengineered design incorporating native plants soil wraps, stream barbs and root wads to create aquatic habitat.
The Great Northern will commission Mother Tongue, a new multimedia work from interdisciplinary Minnesota artist Mary Prescott. In fall 2024, The Great Northern and Prescott will invite six local matriarchs from cultural communities represented in the Twin Cities (Hmong, Somalian, Indigenous, Mexican, Indian, Ethiopian, etc.) to a potluck meal. Each guest will bring a dish to share with the group that represents their heritage, telling the story of why it holds meaning for them personally.

Trees usually die as a result of infestation and an unprecedented outbreak in the west is currently decimating pine forests there. While mountain pine beetle is not presently believed to reside in Minnesota, there are risks posed by an expanding species range resulting from warming climate and the potential for accidental introduction via lumber imports from infested areas.

?Movement as Language' explores how dance can become a common language through community workshops and choreographic processes. The workshops are for people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, particularly Latinx, LGBTQ+, and disabled community members. The project will culminate in a unique performance by workshop participants and reflects the work of the leaders' Carmen Lucia 'Meli' Lincoln and Erika Martin in activism, art, and dance education.

This project will develop a plan that identifies several stormwater best management practices (BMPs) for the City of St. Bonifacius and surrounding rural areas. Implementation of these BMPs will improve water quality in Mud Lake and Halsted's Bay. A watershed model (EPA-SWMM and P8) will be developed to determine existing phosphorus and sediment loading from the City of Bonifacius and adjacent rural areas draining to Mud Lake. Model output will be used to identify several potential locations for stormwater BMPs throughout the city and surrounding areas.
The goal of this project is to analyze and document database architecture, platform, table structures, systems and data fields at six Minnesota agencies (Board of Soil and Water Resources, Department of Natural Resources, MN Department of Agriculture, MN Department of Health, Metropolitan Council, and MN Pollution Control Agency) for 30+ databases related to water.
