Public Outreach
The museam assembled a team to create new forms of public outrach to take place in greater Minnesota. The goal is to engage mor residents throughout the state in science and increase their understanding of science, an essential literacy for the future. There are three distinct components: residents from communities involved will have a critical role in project planning and development, projects will be evaluated from quantitative and qualitative perspectives, and projects will embody natural and cultural history, science, technology, engineering and math.
A comprehensive network of community partners will be established for planning and data will be collected in order to have at least one program present in greater Minnesota and a scalable infrastructure developed to expand future programs.
The Suitcase Science live theater program was developed by the team and incorporates community involvement, science and cultural history. The shows were scheduled for implementation in state fiscal year 2011.
