Project Overview

The Roots of Racial Disparity is a new multi-part reporting project explaining the historical roots of today's racial disparities in Minnesota, the very place that set off a colossal reckoning on race in the United States after the killing of George Floyd. This project intends to educate Minnesotan communities about the origins of racism across the state, but just as importantly, MPR News aims to highlight solutions to communities through our reporting.

The fissures that deepened into canyons in 2020 in Minnesota are not new. They have their roots in moments more often relegated to history books than connected to today's headlines - including the destruction of St. Paul's Rondo neighborhood
