MNBA-Minnesota Book Awards tpt documentary
The Minnesota Museum of American Art, The Friends of the St. Paul Public Library and Twin Cities Public Television (tpt) will host a premiere screening on Thursday, February 19 at the Jerome Hill Theater. The premiere screening begins at 6:00 p.m. and will be followed by a question and answer segment with Shari Lamke, tpt producer, and artist Hazel Belvo, as well as a reception in the Minnesota Museum of American Art’s project space.
Expected outcomes for these events included that audience members would become more engaged with Minnesota authors, learn more about book making (in the case of a book artist), the topic of the author’s book, and the process of researching and writing a book.
The documentary, which was nominated for an Emmy, debuted in late February 2015 and was aired on TPT-2, TPT-Life, and TPT-MN channels, garnering approximately 1,000 views per screening. This amounts to a potential viewership of well above 20,000. Copies of the DVD were distributed to regional library systems in Minnesota. Work is currently underway to feature Winter Bees and Other Poems of the Cold by Joyce Sidman and Rick Allen, winner of the Children’s Literature category in 2015, as the “Beyond the Book” special of 2016.
