To increase access to arts and cultural heritage programming at the Stearns County Fair by building a permanent stage for demonstrations, performances, and workshops.
The Chisago Lakes Chain of Lakes watershed in southern Chisago County is made up of 18 lakes and outlets to the St. Croix River through the Sunrise River. The top 20 urban and rural projects around North and South Center Lakes that are identified in the Rural Subwatershed Assessment and Urban Stormwater Retrofit Analysis reports will be the top priority of this application. The goal is a phosphorus reduction of 100 pounds (4%) to North and South Center Lakes.
Over the past 10 years, the Chisago SWCD has invested heavily in the Chisago Lakes Chain of Lakes watershed. In 2020, the fruits of that investment paid off when North and South Center Lakes, formerly impaired for excess nutrients, were de-listed from the MN Impaired Waters List. The other 16 lakes within the watershed are showing improving trends in Total Phosphorus (TP) and Chlorophyll-a concentrations and increasing clarity of the water.

The Carver County Historical Society proposed to develop educational programs that would more fully utilize the newly redesigned Veterans Gallery. The programs were developed through a two-stage process. The first stage, developed for this grant, was fact finding in cooperation with Carver County educators. The second stage, would be program development.
To increase Traverse County Fair's capacity to feature arts and cultural heritage programming by erecting a stage dedicated to arts and entertainment. The stage, complete with lighting, will be home to arts, cultural performances, and educational events during the fair, and will also be used for farmer’s market during the summer.
The Elm Creek Commission had previously completed subwatershed assessments in two areas of the watershed. The Rush Creek Headwaters subwatershed includes much of western Corcoran and parts of Rogers, which are drained by North Fork Rush Creek. The Diamond Creek SWA assessed the direct drainage area to French and Diamond Lakes, and the area tributary to downstream Diamond Creek. This project would support implementation of projects and practices identified in the Rush Creek Headwaters and Diamond Creek SWAs.
To enhance fairgoers experience of arts performances by adding a backstage curtain to the stage. Funds will also be used to feature arts demonstrations by the Milan Village Arts School, and the Iron Will dogsled exhibit.
To create a venue in which to offer arts and culture programming at the fair. The Entertainment Committee of the Jackson County Fair Board will schedule a diverse set of artisans and musicians to provide demonstrations and educational programming for all ages of fair visitors. The free stage will give emergent local musical groups and individuals a stage upon which to showcase their growing talent.

To increase Redwood County Fair's capacity to feature diverse arts and cultural heritage performances by expanding a current stage. The stage enhancement will allow room for multiple artists to perform at once, and will offer the audience a better sight-line for performances. Funds will also be used to hire a writer to publish pieces in local newspapers, the fair website, and facebook, to inform the public of the competitive and historical nature of the open class exhibits at the fair.

To upgrade a portable stage. The Cottonwood County Agricultural Society has purchased a new portable stage that is larger in size and accommodates a greater variety of performers. To upgrade the fair’s stage lighting and provide arts and cultural performances and demonstrations. The Wilkin County Fair will enhance their lighting system on the Free Stage. The fair’s plan is to make the stage a major part of the fair and offers dance, polka, jazz, bluegrass, folk swing choir performances, along with educational demonstrations, such as spinning llama wool.
To enhance the existing performance stage, install six “farm museum” murals produced by a local high school, and offer several programs promoting northern Minnesota’s agricultural heritage. Koochiching County Fair has updated their performance stage to have the capacity to offer several arts performances including a barbershop quartet, a robotic puppet show, a dogsled demonstration, and an antique machinery display. In addition to offering performance art shows, the fair has installed several murals created by local children celebrating the areas local agricultural history.
In partnership with the Chisago Lakes Lake Improvement District, subwatershed assessments for the communities of Center City, Lindstrom and Chisago City, all within the Chisago Lakes Chain of Lakes watershed have been completed. The tourism economy of these communities depends on the Chisago Lakes Chain of Lakes.
Acquire 2.1 acres on shore of Lake Nisswa to support nature-based recreational activities for local, regional and statewide visitors, and provide the first public access to Nisswa Lake, very close to downtown Nisswa and the Paul Bunyan State Trail.
