We propose to integrate Minnesota Wildflowers Information, an online tool for plant identification, with the Minnesota Biodiversity Atlas, to preserve and extend this popular ENTRF-supported resource for future use.
Colors of the North: Preserving Hmong Minnesota Heritage and Paj Ntaub in a Holiday Coloring Book Project, will provide education for student outreach on cultural diversity and celebration that empower the younger generation in building identity and culture within this ever changing and assimilating world through our Hmong Holiday Coloring Project. Our project will bring a sense of belonging and foster wellness in Hmong children and families to appreciate who they are.
This project integrates traditional Hmong healing practices into modern lifestyles and empowers younger Hmong to embrace the wisdom of their ancestors for overall health and well-being.
This project will preserve and facilitate public access to the Northland Poster Collective (NPC). NPC was a print shop in Minneapolis which operated from 1979-2009. The artists who ran NPC created art to represent identities and interests of Latinx, Black, Asian American, LGBTQIA+, and working-class people in Minnesota.
This project helps Minnesota entities that directly or indirectly cause PFAS and microplastics contamination stop the flow of the contaminants by developing strategies to manage solid waste streams.
Expanding COMPAS' Prism Arts, MN Teaching Artists from African, Indigenous, and/or Asian heritages, will develop & deliver arts residencies that teach an art form with roots in their cultural heritage. Residencies will include learning the art form's cultural context, artists from that culture who have influenced it, and creating the art form alongside the Teaching Artist. Artists will select the MN community where their residency will be delivered, focusing on increasing access to the art form.
To bring a variety of new arts and cultural heritage programming to the Northern Minnesota District Fair. Fair will collaborate with Ice Box Radio Theater, Native American speakers, host a bag pipe band and a local country band.
The Duluth Children's Museum is a place for every family to learn and play. Highlighting local cultures through new exhibits, programming, and partnership, the museum will draw new audiences.
This program will bring focused conservation to one of Minnesota's priority aquatic resources, Lakes of Outstanding Biological Significance. These threatened lakes possess outstanding fisheries and provide habitat for a variety of Species in Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN); yet, at present, no habitat protection program specifically targets these priority resources.
This proposal serves to protect 580 acres and enhance 140 acres of forest habitats within Minnesota's public forests through fee title acquisition of strategic private forest land inholdings in State, County and National Forests. Successful efforts will 1) greatly increase management efficiencies and effectiveness of surrounding public forest lands, 2) address primary forest habitat management concerns of forest habitat loss, degradation, fragmentation, and 3) serve to address critical forest and recreational user access needs.
The Duluth Children's Museum recently reopened in its new location, providing a firm foundation to serve the community into the future. This project will allow the museum to add two new interactive arts and cultural heritage experiences; Nibi, an Ojibwe language exhibit focused on water, and CreateSpace, an art and maker area.
In 2007, the City of Lakeland and the Middle St. Croix Watershed Management Organization identified water quality issues related to the existing drainage on Quixote Avenue, a paved north/south roadway directly adjacent to the St. Croix River bluffline. Currently, Quixote Avenue collects and drains stormwater runoff from residential lots and roadways before it concentrates at the end of the roadway and discharges over the bluffline directly into Lake St. Croix.
The City of Wyoming has proudly commenced construction of Railroad Park, a new and exciting addition to our community that will kick off the redevelopment of our downtown development plan. This vibrant community space is being developed in three phases as we work towards celebrating our City's rich heritage, honoring our veterans, and providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike. The first phase of Railroad Park, which construction began on in Fall of 2023, is the Veterans Memorial portion of the project.
There are seven major watersheds Koochiching County, this project will work in five of them: Big Fork, Little Fork, Rapid River, Lower Rainy River, and Rainy River Headwaters watersheds. The local Koochiching County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is positioned to assist in several elements of the Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy (WRAPS) process. This includes gap monitoring for water chemistry, sediment work, TMDL (Total Maximum Daily Load) development, modeling scenarios, and WRAPS development.
The purpose of this project is to establish an International Watershed Coordinator for the Lake of the Woods and Rainy River (LOW/RR) watershed, to assist the MPCA in facilitating and enhancing civic engagement through collaboration and integration of the efforts of groups working on watershed activities at local, state/provincial and bi-national levels of organization.
The University of Minnesota will develop effective interview questions for community watershed assessments in the Rainy River basin and provide assistance in understanding the data collected through community interviews.
The Rainy River Basin WPLMN Sampling Program will focus on watershed load monitoring in the Big Fork River, Little Fork River, Rainy River-Rainy Lake, and Vermilion River watersheds. Four total staff will work on various portions of this agreement. The main objective is for one lead sampler and one backup sampler to collect water chemistry and field parameters for eight (8) sites, annually at various flows, especially peak flows, and utilize that data to determine the amount of pollutant load into each stream system.
This project will provide an important framework for civic and citizen engagement and communication in the International Rainy River-Lake of the Woods Watershed, which will contribute to long-term public participation in surface water protection and restoration activities.
