Project Details

The grants funded a Conditions Assessment of the Teien Central School District No. 9 schoolhouse, built in 1904, to evaluate its restoration needs. This assessment will help prioritize necessary stabilization and restoration projects, as the building has served the community for decades, first as a school and later as a town hall. In 2020, the Township Board, facing budget constraints, formed a volunteer committee to seek funding for the building's extensive restoration to prevent its destruction. Restoration of the building will allow it to once again be utilized as a place for public gatherings as well as serve as a museum display of the history of the school building and showcase its historical significance.
