Project Overview

The goal of this project is to update and revise the Twin Cities Metro Area (TCMA) Chloride Management Plan to a Statewide Chloride Management Plan (CMP). The Statewide CMP will provide stakeholders the information and tools necessary to improve and/or maintain water quality with respect to chloride.

A second goal of this project is to improve and enhance the Winter Maintenance Assessment tool (WMAt). This planning tool is critical for assisting stakeholders in meeting the water quality goals of the Chloride Management Plan without compromising public safety, and allowing for consideration of the varying resources and conditions for each individual winter maintenance program. The WMAt also allows for assistance with tracking and reporting the progress being made by the users to implement Best Management Practices (BMPs) that will prevent chloride pollution and protect Minnesota’s waters.
