Each of the exhibits planned for our 2024 season involve artists representing what they see in the environment around us and also HOW they see. Whether composing a photograph of the forest, or illustrating a vision of that forest, or carving a vision of space within a room that is empty but for a century of memories, each of these artistic projects examines how to look at and how to 'see' the world before our eyes. With these exhibits, we want audiences to discover a new awareness about the overlooked spaces they inhabit and pass through daily. By experiencing multiple different interpretations of our region in differing styles and formats, audiences will gain greater awareness of how our community contains and fosters diverse experiences of the natural world. They will gain greater awareness of the opportunities for re-envisioning the environments they inhabit. Assessing audience awareness requires faith in their giving you honest and open feedback. We will take three approaches. Early in the season, share an online survey form via email that has a short list of questions about what audience members think of when they think of 'landscape' art. This survey will be repeated at the end of the season via email. Responses will be collated and summarized. A version of this survey will be available in paper form at the gallery so visitors may complete it prior to and after seeing the work. We will share results with the Artists and interview them for their reaction to this and to what they heard in conversations directly with the audience. We will also host a series of informal luncheons and/or dinners with small groups of audience members to get their responses. These will take place monthly in June, July and August. Questions will focus on how they might apply the artists' vision or style to their own environment, and what surprised them about the work.
