Retrofitting the Oldest High School in MN
This grant project will result in the design and construction of a series of water quality improvements including 18 rain gardens, 1 bio filtration basin, and 1 sand iron filter in Marine on St. Croix.
This project resulted in an estimated annual reduction in 4 lbs in phosphorus and 1.465 tons of sediment.
LOCAL LEVERAGED FUNDS
Capitol Region Watershed District is partnering with St. Paul Public Schools to implement a variety of highly visible Best Management Practices at Central High School that will improve the quality of stormwater discharged to the Mississippi River. A tremendous amount of sediment is discharged from the school annually due to the large impervious areas and lack of vegetation. Implementing the projects will reduce sediment by 86% and phosphorus by 90% over the target area annually. Additionally, 95% of the volume generated in the project area during a one-inch storm will be treated through infiltration. The project proponents will also consider opportunities for stormwater harvesting/reuse which would further improve treatment potential.
