I cannot explain the magical feeling that happens when a child comes up to me and tells me they love Woofy and my books. These books were meant to be love letters to my own children. I never dreamt they would be so loved and gain so much attention. It is my goal, with this next and final book in the series, to continue to grow as an author by sharing the love of literature with children, both across the region and all over the world. Jennifer Rees is an incredible asset and mentor to help me develop skills. I will use feedback gained from outside publishers to compare this project to my first two books and make it even better. I have, in addition, a journal of all my writings and intend to use it to grow as an author. It is amusing to me to look back to my early thoughts for books, especially those from before I began this series.
I love writing, but novels are lonely, lengthy work, so I was excited to get to create something with others -- and with a more-immediate payoff. Writing and filming the sketches turned out to be even more satisfying than I thought it would be and taught me a lot about how I and others work. I learned how to delicately navigate the politics of a writers' room. I also practiced encouraging people who had suddenly lost confidence in their work. I learned that I love directing. I discovered that while I'd been intimidated by the idea of editing video, sitting and debating placement of lines/the ending of scenes is something I very much enjoy: it feels a lot like shaping prose. Miles created Facebook page where we can promote both the sketches and the live shows, so we've got no choice but to keep creating more of both.
