In this project author and illustrator Nancy Carlson will conduct a project where students learn to develop stories and story boards using drawing techniques that are special.

During her time with us, Nancy got the children to come up with many creative story boards and then they created many pictures to bring alive their idesas. A very creative group of story boards were created that came alive with the pictures. An important outcome was the many links between the pictures and the story boards; A good outcome for this project will be that each child will develop a story board where they have developed their own characters. They will give these characters life by using their imaginations. Another good outcome is the impact that it will have on reading development. This is a fundamental component that will show for years to come. To know that second graders have their reading abilities in place and that it was brought about by Nancy Carlson will be wonderful. Input from parents will play a key role in this project as they will see what their children are learning and drawing. Parents are the ones that give encouragement to their children and this is what makes learning take place in a positive manner. A key component will be the story board that each child completes after meeting with Nancy. It will show if the story idea has been developed. Also, a teacher will also be able to see if the imagination of every child has come alive in a new way. Teachers will follow up on these story boards by having them expand them further and put them into a final format. Finally, teachers will be looking to see if a sense of excitement has come about for every child as they develop their story boards.
