?Akeelah and the Bee? is the story of an eleven year-old girl who has a gift for words and hopes to make it to the National Spelling Bee. The story deals with issues of self-esteem and racial stereotypes, while highlighting the importance of community.

To produce a high-quality live performing arts experience that combats racial stereotypes and highlights the importance of community. The proposed outcomes will be measured by audience and teacher surveys, ticket sales, artistic staff and volunteer feedback, and executive director evaluation.
