Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Our primary goal for the funding period (calendar year 2022) is to return to normal operations, involving as many musicians as possible and presenting live performances in Virginia and other Iron Range communities. Measurable outcomes: 1) MSO will re-engage with musicians and involve as many as possible in our symphony orchestra, and in our chamber ensemble for less experience string players. 2) MSO will implement its new staffing plan and carry out administrative activities effectively and efficiently. 3) MSO will renew its fundraising efforts with individuals and businesses. 4) MSO will monitor audience size and develop strategies to grow its audiences. The first outcome will be met if the number of musicians participating in our orchestra and chamber ensemble meets or exceeds the number participating prior to March 2020. This outcome will be measured in the fall of 2022. The second outcome will be met if all positions (artistic director/conductor, general manager, accountant, stage manager, volunteer coordinator, social media coordinator, librarian, personnel manager) are filled with paid employees or volunteers, and if the board judges operations to be running smoothly. The third outcome will be met if fundraising through events, individual donations, business support, and ad sales meet or exceeds levels achieved in calendar year 2019. The fourth outcome will be met if audience sizes in Virginia grow throughout the year, and if the orchestra performs in at least two other communities. We anticipate that it may take more than one year to rebuild audiences to prior levels.
