Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

In fiscal year 2013, Zenon will commission new work by Minnesota choreographers to be performed in our home season at the Cowles Center for Dance and Performing Arts and toured to new audiences in Greater Minnesota. Performances are evaluated through critical and peer reviews; audience surveys; audience size; written evaluations by choreographers and other artistic collaborators; informal discussions with dancers and audience members. 2: Fiscal year 2013 funding will support increased marketing initiatives to draw more audiences to our Cowles seasons, and support Zenon Dance School marketing and administrative costs to develop Minnesota’s next generation of dancers through high-quality education, and nurturing emerging choreographers and performers through the Zenon Dance Zone Scholarship Program. Funding will support our new deaf/hard of hearing marketing program, covering increased administrative staff time, marketing materials, and Web site activities, and will allow us to annually evaluate the effectiveness of the plan on growing this underserved audience base. Zenon Dance School is constantly assessing the popularity of classes and observing trends in the local and national dance communities to assure that the curriculum reflects the public's desires. Zenon Dance Zone programming was evaluated through student participation levels, written and verbal evaluations, and the quality of the culminating student performances.

Measurable Outcome(s)

The arts thrive in Minnesota: the new Cowles Center has created a renaissance for dance in the Twin Cities, inspiring new audiences and donors for dance. Zenon is at the center of this activity as one of the principal dance companies presented during the Cowles' season. In fiscal year 2013, with Arts Board Operating Support funding, Zenon commissioned and premiered a new work, Storm, by Minnesota choreographer Mariusz Olsewski and toured to new audiences in Greater Minnesota. 2: People of all ages, ethnicities, and abilities participate in the arts: Fiscal year 2013 funding supported increased marketing initiatives to draw more audiences to our Cowles seasons. Fiscal year 2013 funding also supported Zenon Dance School marketing and administrative costs, to develop Minnesota's next generation of dancers through high-quality education, and nurturing emerging choreographers and performers through the Zenon Dance Zone Scholarship Program.
