Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

To achieve the goal that people of all ages, ethnicities, and abilities participate in the arts, the Academy proposes to achieve the goal to provide music education to at least 100 students per ten week session; provide music education to students of diverse cultural backgrounds from at least three cultural groups represented at greater than 10%; provide music education to students from diverse ages from at least three age groups represented at greater than 10%; and provide performance opportunities to all program participants and have at least a 50% performance rate at Academy events. Walker West Music Academy tracked the achievement of these by utilizing the organization's online enrollment tracking system called Jackrabbit Class. This database gathers demographic information and the data outlined above was obtained through this system. The Academy tracked performance opportunities by providing recitals for public performance open to all student participants throughout the grant period. The Academy did not achieve the goal of a 50% performance rate from program participants. It is estimated that the performance rate was 35% for fiscal year 2013. 2: To achieve the goal that the arts thrive in Minnesota, the Academy will strengthen its long-term organizational stability by developing and implementing short- and long-term strategic initiatives focused on enhancing the organization's financial standing by continuing to decrease ratio through fiscal year 2012 and fiscal year 2013; and implementing a sustainable plan for facilities needs. Walker West Music Academy tracked the achievement of goals by utilizing data obtained from the organization's accounting records which are managed by a contract accountant on Quickbooks software system. The Academy will track the progress of real estate planning with the consultant team.

Measurable Outcome(s)

The Academy successfully achieved the following goals: A) Provided more than 100 students with music education per ten week session throughout fiscal year 2013. B) Provided diverse cultural groups with music education, with three groups represented at greater than 10%. C) Provided diverse age groups with music education, with ages 5-12, 13-18, and 25-55 represented at greater than 10%. D) Provided performance opportunities to all program participants through five session recitals and through youth jazz ensemble performance opportunities. 2: The Academy successfully achieved the following goals: 1. Improved the organization's financial health during the grant period by consolidating debt and increasing assets. 2. Successfully leveraged support from the Saint Paul Foundation which provides support to engage a real estate planning team to help transition the organization to a sustainable long term facility.
