Proposed Measurable Outcome(s)

Expand and diversify programming to nine core dance styles by fiscal year 2015. We're now offering salsa dance monthly, and have just finished a workshop series in salsa. But, we've temporarily dropped swing as a core dance style, so are at eight. Our programming committee and staff are actively exploring other programming options to offer balance to the program and greater service to our audiences. Support rental groups who are Tapestry founders representing unique folkdance forms and styles (e.g., Morris dancers, Scottish dancers) through enhanced publicity. Programming was reviewed and evaluated at quarterly meetings of our Program Committee, considering mission, artistic/teaching quality, financial impact, and audience interests/attendance, with the most extensive review covering the full fiscal year, at the July 2013 meeting. This committee consists of board and non-board members, dancers and teachers, as well as the Executive Director. Over the course of the year, waltz, Hambo, Roma Gypsy and Bollywood evolved from being experimental programs, to being regular offerings because of audience response (positive comments and attendance) and recognition they enhanced mission. Audience members for Contra (our largest program) were surveyed over the course of five weeks in early spring for their response to teachers/artists and overall program. A committee for our various international programs has done informal evaluation of offerings; this process will be enhanced in coming year. 2: Expand subsidized rentals to community dancers to increase impact and service to new audiences, including non-European based dances. Increase training for board and key stakeholders to enhance fundraising abilities. Tapestry both served a broad array of community groups and dancers, and exceeded budget goals for rentals. We've increased publicity in our calendar; hard copy postings on bulletin boards in our lobby and coat room; and on our Web site. Groups served range from small artist collectives to branches of international dance organizations, serving both youth and adults.

Measurable Outcome(s)

Programming was expanded and diversified by folk-dance origin (i.e., broader global inclusion) as well as by number of dance types. Core dances are: Bollywood; Introductory International; International; Advanced International; Contra; English Country; Waltz; Scandinavian. On a periodic cycle, starting in this past year, we offer Hambo and Roma Gypsy. After consideration by our Program Committee and staff, Salsa and swing were dropped because of mission, financial concerns, and because both are available elsewhere in the region. 2: Support of community dancers and dance group rental partners has included increased publicity in our calendar; hardcopy postings on our bulletin boards; and on our Web site. We exceeded budget goals for rentals in fiscal year 2013, as well as service. While we did not add non-European based dances via rental partners, we have made Bollywood dance an on-going, core program.
