Project Details

Significant portions of the original foundation wall materials were retained and repaired providing the Noerenberg Estate Barn with a firm foundation, eliminating potential structural issues, and further deterioration of the damaged foundation walls. As outlined in the park's initial Interpretive Plan, the barn and its related structures (such as the water tower, which is included on the NRHP Listing) will serve as a tangible reminder of Frederick Noerenberg's work as a "gentleman farmer" on the shores of Lake Minnetonka - a key era in the region's history that is becoming more difficult to interpret as high property values continue to lead to the subdivision of historic estates. The Noerenberg Gardens is likely the only remaining Gilded Age Estate on Lake Minnetonka whose complete historic land base is intact.
