Measurable Outcome(s)

Short term impact has been achieved. Visitors to Nary school are immediately and pleasantly aware of the increased light in the rooms of the building, removal of dropped ceiling tile, new electrical wiring, existing metal ceiling tiles uncovered and repaired, gypsum board installed and plaster repairs, paint, bricked up leaky basement windows, and refinished existing wood trim. Intermediate plans to restore and/or stabilize historic features of the building have been discussed, especially improved ADA accessibility and compliance. And long-term impact is indicated by the community's efforts to fund and build Nary Historic Park with ice rink, warming house, fire pit, horseshoes, volleyball court and other recreation facilities adjacent to the school. Construction began in May 2021. A George W. Neilson Foundation grant has been received and others are pending. Helga Township and its community members has clearly demonstrated their commitment to maintaining this historic property with these investments.
